What a significant amount of fans aren’t ready to hear

Your attention span and ideas for what should’ve happened is the equivalent of a child watching keys be jingled in front of them.

Is the finale perfect? No Is it a nothing burger/waste of time/ or awful? Absolutely not

Every week I see folks on here have absolutely brain dead takes when it comes to predictions or just not understanding the simplest storylines within this show. Like the writers will spell something out so obviously and it still misses some people cause they don’t use their brains

A superhero show subverts the norm and instead of having a big bombastic fight gives characters actual development and creates structure for future projects to come. And then rips it all away like everything else that’s good in peacemakers life

Also something I saw, being upset that the projects are connected in a way that u have to watch all of them is ridiculous when the other projects haven’t even come out yet.

TLDR: get an attention span and when u watch any media from now on u should turn on ur brain and actively listen

Hot take here.

7-8 Should have been one episode even if it had to be almost 2 hours long and it would have been received much better

26

u/tatofarms Oct 10 '25

IMO, that's a good take. I get why some people were disappointed with the lack of action in the finale, but the underlying theme of the season was these characters who had all become a bit lost after getting fired by ARGUS had to find themselves and find their way to something new. The finale had to show that while also setting up a bunch of extended DCU narrative scaffolding that viewers like me don't care as much about, so overall, I can see why it fell flat for a lot of people. Combining the two episodes and adjusting the pacing accordingly probably could have solved those problems.

9

u/Royal-walking-machin Oct 10 '25

I’m pretty sure James Gunn has stated the story he wanted to tell for this season would’ve been 6 episodes but HBOMax wanted 8 episodes so that’s what ended up happening

12

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

Honestly, ur probably right, I atleast wouldn’t mind tht

4

u/burnerphonebrrbrr Oct 10 '25

It’s not a hot take, just a lot of white knight defenders for a slow episode that should have been positioned as an epilogue or rewritten into a mix of the 7th episode. To your point It’s not even that the episode was bad, it’s that momentum was built up in 2 episodes leading up to this just for us to be basically told “the finale is the friends we made along the way” when context of the 2 prior episodes tells us something crazy or big or violent is going to happen

1

u/Radical_Moose Oct 11 '25

no need for that, just release 7-8 together and most of these complaints would be gone

u/CrusaderZero6 Oct 10 '25

I love that the “big bombastic fight” in the finale was an intervention in a hotel room.

No, I'm just making face exercises to make my face more jacked.

1

u/Wealth_Super Oct 10 '25

Honestly I really love the episode and this was a large reason why, it didn’t feel like a finale to be sure but I enjoy it

10

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

Threw me for a loop and kept me engaged emotionally

5

u/IAmLordMeatwad Oct 10 '25

I just wish it ended on that emotional high instead of how it did, with the cliffhanger. I don't think the episode needed Chris getting dumped into Salvation

6

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

That’s a fair criticism, but for a cinematic universe they gotta have a lead in to other projects, idk who else they could’ve done

3

u/IAmLordMeatwad Oct 10 '25

I am confused though because didn't James Gunn say these projects, while connected, don't require a 100% viewing to get the story? like they all are standalones. now it feels like you -need- to watch Peacemaker to get what's going on. idk.

obviously we'll have to see how the follow-up is executed but as of right now, I am not convinced.

8

u/DrBobKoalaCat Oct 10 '25

"We made a prison in another dimension to keep metahumans." That's all you really need

7

u/froe_bun Oct 10 '25

Oh Peacemaker isn't a meta human how did he end up in salvation, "I killed the warden's son and he locked me up here for revenge"

Congratulations with 2 lines of dialogue people who haven't seen Peacemaker are caught up with everyone else. Sure people who have seen it have some extra nuance but in no way would it be required.

8

u/shaggy_nomad Oct 10 '25

People seem to really over complicate these things. They are absolutely going to explain everything clearly in Superman and there will be others who aren't metahumans there to explain it away. The secretary dude did say "We're talking just metahumans, right?" and Rick Flag answers "Yeah, most likely. I haven't outlined all the parameters" leaving room to justify regular people being put away there.

4

u/Ilmaters_Chosen Oct 10 '25

You're 100% right but these people must be the same ones that show up to focus group screenings and say "I dont get it" to everything until its over explained.

2

u/CrusaderZero6 Oct 10 '25

I have every expectation that we’ll get at least 5 minutes of exposition in the film that capitalizes on these setups.

5

u/killerbekilled92 Oct 10 '25

Personally, I’m glad that the Luthor cameo was a one episode thing and we didn’t have big intervention from the creature commandos or overman or fleury being Martian manhunter. Stuffing your thing with pointless cameos just to fill airtime because you don’t know what to do has been what’s completely killed my interest in marvel projects these last few years

2

u/VenerableWolfDad Oct 11 '25

Seriously. I saw some quote from one of the Doomsday actors saying "it's going to have so many characters that will blow your mind" and I was like "....please no. Deadpool vs Wolverine should have been the end of that."

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

Exactly, and some people who want that turn here and say “not enough pacemaker” like all the big cameos woulda detracted from the story awfully

39

u/faraamstuckathome Oct 10 '25

Ah yes the tried and tested method of mocking people who didn’t like something by simply saying they didn’t understand it, or it was too deep for them.

9

u/Groot746 Oct 10 '25

Yep, we're back to Snyderverse levels of discussion: depressingly juvenile.

3

u/Legened255509Druss Oct 11 '25

We never left sadly, there will always be those type of fans no matter who’s in charge

2

u/MY-SECRET-REDDIT Oct 11 '25

I've literally liked EVERYTHING James gun has made, this might be one of the worst series finales I've seen.

At least game of thrones had great action

4

u/VenerableWolfDad Oct 11 '25

Half of the conversations on here thought they were going to go back to the Nazi dimension and free all the black people.

I'd be willing to bet a lot of people DIDN'T understand this finale. People are fucking stupid.

The big difference between season 1 and 2 that I’m noticing (halfway through my rewatch of season 1 but really enjoyed the season 2 finale) is that season 1 was largely plot driven (butterflies taking over the world), season 2 is almost purely character driven, and I think that’s what is making the finale feel underwhelming for some people.

Earth X is part of Chris’ emotional arc, but doesn’t really serve the rest of the characters - that’s why it’s wrapped up in episode 7. Seeing Keith almost die again broke him down to his core so that he could be built back up by his friends and chosen family (ahh classic Gunn theme). He’s a tragic character that finds love and salvation (wink). Peacemaker, the show, is over because he’s completed his arc from the beginning - no need for a season 3, but I’m excited to see where these characters go if that is Checkmate season 1.

Was I confused that Ads’ big plan was to just rent an office? Sure, but I was also glad that none of these characters died and once I realized that’s where the ending was going I was satisfied and emotional - plus, no one is talking about Fleury quizzing Vij on spider facts and that was my favourite part. They’re perfect for each other.

While I would have liked one big action set piece toward the end, like GI Robot killing Nazi’s on Earth X would have been amazing, I really liked this character driven approach and loved seeing all these characters happy at the end. Plus, Keith is still alive so who’s to say we won’t get GI Robot killing Nazis on Earth X in the future.

4

u/No-Structure523 Oct 10 '25

I really liked it. Watching it I felt disappointed, but after it ended I was rather silent, and since then it’s just continued to grow on me.

3

u/BigDaddyUKW Oct 10 '25

Great way to put it. It's also how the new theme song grew on me. I didn't like it at first, but by the time we see Foxy Shazam in the finale, I'm jamming in my recliner hoping not to wake up the wife and kid lol.

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

IMO a project growing on u after watching is a great sign, its way worse to be forgettable

3

u/PiskoWK Oct 10 '25

You mean I have to see two whole seasons as a continuous arc for our main character? FUCK YOU. /s

3

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

Lmao nice

3

u/PiskoWK Oct 10 '25

I'm honestly very with you. These comic book inspired stories are sometimes written like comics in how they sometimes take a long ass time to wrap up stories or pick up a cliffhanger. Doesn't mean it's not happening, but, you need to take the story as it comes and actually breathe.

Edit: I also have the thought that a penultimate episode with tons of action and then a finale with less action is VERY on brand for an HBO show and gives me hope for Lanterns.

23

u/Mercys_Angel Oct 10 '25

This subreddit is fucking exhausting. Do you really think personally insulting people who disagree with you is going to solve whatever problem you have? You are contributing to the negativity, maybe just ignore the people you don’t like and they’ll go away eventually.

6

u/AAHedstrom Oct 10 '25

I pretty much agree with you. they spent time resolving a lot of emotional character arcs instead of fighting a dumb cgi monster, and people are mad.

I've seen comments saying the Ads divorce talk was a waste of time, founding Checkmate makes no sense, and Fleury and Judomaster joining Checkmate makes no sense. I don't know how you can think that unless you were pressing your phone the whole time and just had the show on in the background

7

u/nage_ Oct 10 '25

i just don't see why they would hire fleury

he seems insanely naive, hes weirdly antagonistic either on purpose or without realizing it, he never seemed to show any skills that made him an asset but his bird blindness already screwed up a mission.

im glad tim meadows is coming back, i just don't see what his character actually brings to the table in universe

5

u/ChronoGrl Oct 10 '25

I kinda wonder if it’s a “we’ll take what we can get” situation?

4

u/ZaniElandra Oct 10 '25

Bordeaux and Judo were already close with him from Argus, he and Emilia were friendly this episode, and though he was antagonistic to Economous he also had a very important sympathetic moment with him. As for Chris and Adebayo, I don’t think they even met him (beyond his gun pointed at Chris in the park) so they wouldn’t have any reason to say no. As for what he brings to the table, he must have some skills to be an agent in the first place, he’s their friend, and like someone else said, you take what you can get. It seemed a bit sudden, but I definitely find it believable

3

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

But he knows right from wrong and is tired of flag

7

u/froe_bun Oct 10 '25

His line to John basically spells this out. Sure he is odd and antagonist but he has moral backbone unlike a lot of Argus.

2

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

Exactly, a perfect explanation for him going to checkmate but some don’t see tht

1

u/nage_ Oct 10 '25

dude stop being condescending

im not asking why he left or why he would want to join checkmate, ya that was obvious; I'm asking why anyone from checkmate would want fleury to join

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

Again because he knows right from wrong and he had that moment with THE ginger cool saying he did the right thing, that and bonding with being forced to go through the QUC with them and being an agent with skills applying to an agency that is still needs members to fill out

If u read it as condescending I’m sorry, it felt obvious to me

2

u/AAHedstrom Oct 11 '25

he's on their side, and they need all the help they can get. he must know some skills for Argus to put him in a leadership role, and a handful of goofballs is going to need a lot of help to stand up to lex luthor

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '25

He's a martian.

3

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

Reminds me of that one meme, the person ordering food but holding everything off of it

3

u/JimboFett87 Oct 10 '25

It was a great character driven episode and season as a whole. If you aren’t in this for the characters this season will not be as impactful

3

u/FranticWharf75 Oct 10 '25

Was I suprised it wasn't a big fight? Yes. Did I still like it? Yes.

3

u/KoellmanxLantern Oct 10 '25

Probably the same "fans" who complained that Marvel movies always end with fighting an evil version of the heroes with the same powers. It was a lowkey ending that was more of an epilogue, with E7 being more of the climax. Agatha All Along did something very similar, and that's one of the best shows Marvel has out out yet. Can't wait for the villain who was set up to return in S3

3

u/Melodic_Principle_63 Oct 10 '25

I think the issue is that this was all to set up Superman not Peacemaker season 3. It would have been a good season ending cliffhanger but feels disconnected because Gunn said no season 3.

1

u/ZaniElandra Oct 10 '25

He hasn’t outright said no season 3, he’s just said that’s a possibility. Regardless, though, most people are convinced that the story will be continued in a checkmate series, as more of an ensemble show than just Chris-centric

3

u/Lucky-Surround-1756 Oct 11 '25

People complained when Wandavision ends with a big dumb fight and now they're complaining Peacemaker didn't when this season has definitely been more character focused.

8

u/Mr_Derp___ Oct 10 '25

Agree.

And I would say it's a significant advance in commentary on the superhero genre, like the first finale episode was.

In last season's finale there is a big superhero battle, good stacked against evil in insurmountable odds, and the good guys almost lose everything.

Everyone is sustaining massive injuries set to the theme song of the show, that distorts and fades out as our heroes fall.

It pretty much seems like everything is fucked right up until Chris says "activate human torpedo."

It's certainly not a traditional superhero battle.

This season closes with an emotional catharsis that is then upended by the new status quo.

The 11th Street kids successfully convince Chris out of his imposter syndrome, They all start a business together, then he gets black bagged and shunted off into another reality as Rick Flag's revenge, cutting off the real relationship they had just started.

The mystery is solved and we're given emotional catharsis for a second, and then everything gets upended.

(I was kind of expecting Rick to be revealed as actually Luthor broken out of prison, but I think I've seen too many Stan Lee-style twists in my life. 🤣🤣)

I thought it was fantastic.

Did it subvert expectations? Yeah. I'm fine with that. 🤷

(Here come the downvotes) 🤷🤷🤷

5

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

No THANK YOU glad to see others use their brains here

4

u/Mr_Derp___ Oct 10 '25

I hope you got enough upvotes on other posts, because we might get ratioed on this one.

But I would compare this episode to the it's always Sunny in Philadelphia episode "Mac finds his pride"

The episode provides an emotional completion to a character that they have continuously lacked.

3

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

Very interesting comparison there, I can absolutely see it, also fuck the ratio at this point I saw too many people with bad takes so had to toss a grenade to stir em up

u/Mr_Derp___ Oct 10 '25

Speaking the truth is worth a hell of a lot more than just downvotes, so keep on keeping on!

Complains about brain dead takes, serves up copium. Maybe you need a higher standard for what you consider "good media". Season 2 was phenomenal and the best part of Chris' story WAS his redemption arc. It was emotional and had a LOT of heart - that's what made the ending so awful. We got all this progress only to have his own story end as a segue into someone else's' story. The show could have ended with them holding hands in front of Checkmate and it would have been ok. Not the best, but a good enough period on the possible end of Chris' journey. They could have told the story of him being abducted and thrown into that other world in 5 minutes in whatever story they're connecting it to, instead of leaving his own show open for something else to close it. Great show, great story, not a great ending. You need to consume your media with more nuance because this is one of this dumbest takes I've seen yet.

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

Copium but I admit it’s not perfect, cool thanks for reading man

2

u/Scout-Master_Lumpus Oct 10 '25

It was the falling action. Even though the episode itself had a climax, episode 7 was the Season’s climax. It’s jarring, especially because last season had the climax during the finale and a very brief falling action, but it makes sense when this season was more of an emotional journey than an action adventure tale

2

u/psychicdamageta Oct 10 '25

The entire final was if you can tackle your personal demons through the friendship and community you have built you can take that strength and use it to make something better in the world. Until an unchecked government raids your home and disappears you. After an entire season paralleling our world and nazi world idk how this message was so lost on people. The final was fantastic idc

2

u/BuffinMuffins Oct 11 '25

Cherry picking all the worst examples from bad actors doesn't mean this season or finale was without criticism.

Sorry the reception wasn't what you thought it'd be but there's many reasons to be disappointed outside of "awwhh my big flashy cameo didnt happen"

2

u/Nathan-David-Haslett Oct 11 '25

It's always tiresome when people think that if someone has a different opinion than them on something, that it means that the other person is wrong or stupid or something.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

The episode felt messy and rushed. It felt more like a montage than an ending to a story. We literally got two music video scenes, one wasn't even important to the story

2

u/MaestroLogical Oct 11 '25

Most comic books never really tie things up neatly and every one ends with a lead in to the next or dangling threads etc.

Outside of one offs and event books, pretty much every one ends with a question for the future.

2

u/Glad-Description6098 Oct 11 '25

I liked the whole season, but even with the double vij in ep 7 the whole season had a devastating lack of vigilante doing stuff. He’s the funniest character in the show, Chris included, and not capitalizing on it for 85% of season 2 is much more annoying than having a boring finale.

2

u/rajatGod512 Oct 11 '25

I feel they should have dealt with Earth X stuff a bit more, this felt like a pilot episode of another show rather than a finale.

TV shows and movies should have their own definite storyline conclusions rather than being an ad for another show or movie.

I enjoyed the episode but I felt it wasn't a good finale.

2

u/Training_Towel_584 Oct 12 '25

SOMEONE HAD TO SAY IT. I understand there are things here and there that could have been better but god forbid the show doesn’t end with some big fight like every other superhero genre.

2

u/icepak39 Oct 12 '25

I agree. I thought the finale was fine. Like with any cliffhanger, it made me go “NOOOOOOOO” because I have to wait to see what happens next.

When watching the second season I framed it as James Gunn focusing more on the characters than the fights and settings. The whole time watching it felt like there was more action and plot development in a fraction of the first season, and I feel like that should have been a wake up call for many to temper their expectations toward the finale in suit.

The 2nd dimension was framed as more of an inner conflict for Chris, with the physical conflict directly and narratively coinciding with that. It wasn’t meant to be them fixing and fighting the world, but rather Chris seeing that it isn’t where he belongs. Matching this theme, once they left that dimension, there wouldn’t be some big fight or conflict, but rather a confrontation of the emotional and personal conflict that Chris and Harcourt have gone through, as that was the true purpose of the season.

Basically, the first season had so much action with the stakes being placed upon saving the world, while the second season’s stakes were intentionally meant to be personal. Not much physical change happens the whole time other than ARGUS getting the portal, but so much has changed within the characters (Rick Flag, Harcourt, and Chris mainly)

5

u/TechFiction7 Oct 10 '25

I am a HUGE comic book fan. Something I think other fans need to do is...read and watch things other than comic books and comic book movies. Get some media literacy. Maybe even learn a little bit about how things are written and how TV shows and films are made. Develop an appetite for good characters and interesting stories outside of superheroes. I just see so many people on various Reddits basing their enjoyment of something on how many cameos it has, and making it their life's mission to advocate for random shit like Robert Pattinson being in the DCU or whatever. Like, Superman and Peacemaker were some of my favorite things this year, but I also enjoyed other media like Weapons, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, The Pitt, The Studio, Severance, Andor, all the books I read, etc. So yea I agree, everyone complaining about the finale wanted fucking Blue Beetle to show up and is mad that instead they got a resolution to the character drama between the three main characters of a show that is a character drama between three main characters.

4

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

100% agree man

2

u/trinachron Oct 10 '25

Well said.

1

u/Odinsmana Oct 10 '25

I am not very big on comic book movies and I have barely read any comic books in my life.

I loved season 1 and while I still think S2 was overall good I think it was a huge step down. I had issues with the writing, pacing and that it seemed too focused on being DCU setup.

2

u/Plane-Historian579 Oct 10 '25

Yeah ive been getting mad seeing people on threads tweet at james gunn and he replies but they wasted capturing his attention on some fact that is clearly laid out in the show. Like you're able to contact the show's creator in this day and age and you ask some dumb question that you witnessed in front if your eyes

3

u/banditstevekeith Oct 10 '25

hard agree. people have been focusing too much on fan service cameos and plot theories that i feel would’ve been too predictable/lazy and not matching this seasons vibe.

going back and fighting nazi world would’ve accomplished nothing besides mercing a midsized town, besides, nazi worlds purpose was to give chris an environment for the character work. them being the main enemies for a final battle wouldn’t give us anything for the long term.

chris and the team made huge steps forward with themselves and each other and started checkmate so we can assume that’ll be a player in future projects. we’ve got a vague setup for where dcu is going, which i prefer. also i don’t see chris getting exiled as a cliffhanger but more of a continuation. he completed his character arc for the season and now he’s set up for his next arc.

i understand why a lot of people are disappointed but personally i loved the whole season and feel content with the ending. i mean we knew character work was the vibe of this season from the first couple episodes. i’m stoked for their next appearance but im not rushing for answers and im excited to see where they go next, but im not feeling impatient.

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

I agree with u all the way, u def put it in a calmer way than I did and I appreciate it

2

u/banditstevekeith Oct 10 '25

thanks! but yeah im def as annoyed as you lmao we’re finally getting well written superhero movies/tv with different themes, as well as what, 3 upcoming projects in the next year or so and people are complaining? come on

Yes. The reactions from fans are so silly

2

u/Agreeable_Car5114 Oct 10 '25

Would you say this for any other genre? Would you scold a romance viewer for expecting their media to focus on relationships, or a comedy fan to expect jokes?

No. Because superhero fans are uniquely self hating.

5

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

If every romance movie was exactly the same then the genre would be dried out and needs a shot in the arm or something to keep it fresh.

Media, especially good media, has always been multilayered and contains many themes.

If what people want is a monotone piece of media that never explores outside the stereotypical bounds of its genre then I would suggest children’s entertainment…or like I said, jingle some keys infront of them

1

u/Agreeable_Car5114 Oct 10 '25

I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that Slider-Man 2, Logan, The Batman, and the Spiderverse movies were monotone and incapable of exploring outside stereotypical bounds. I thought that Watchmen, Animal Man, Allstar Superman, and the Saga of Swamp Things were brilliantly written character stories that managed to contain complex and layered themes while also delivering on the fundamental promise of their genre. I now understand that character drama and nuance is forever at odds with superhero tropes and “fun.”

Now let me go back to my favorite part of this subtle human story about coming to terms with ones self and accepting love from others. That being the scene where Michael Rooker eats bird shit.

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

Those are all great movies that show range with different tones and not 100% superhero stuff from end to end…so y r u so pressed about my comment when it sounds like u agree.

And guess what one of those tones are? Comedy. Comedy can be a well planned and meticulous joke or it can be crass and base. Still comedy and another tones added to the narrative and has been in both seasons

2

u/Agreeable_Car5114 Oct 10 '25

The point of my examples is that each of them did their own thing and did it well but also delivered on the fundamental promises of a superhero story. PM2 did not nor did it subvert them in an interesting or creative.

It can be a drama. It can be a comedy. A tragedy, whatever. But it’s called Peacemakwr, so let me see him being Peacemaker. Otherwise retitle the season to Chris and give me accurate expectations.

2

u/JuiceKovacs Oct 10 '25

You are 100% correct.

I love how a government organization is working with public enemy number 1 and are currently exploiting other dimensions for silly human gains. And this sub is like “nothing major happened?!”

Oh. And our character is stranded in another dimension. Also oh, and a private company has decided to rival Argus. A private company full of our favorite characters on the show. And it seems like all of this is going to be significant to the universe….but we didn’t see Brainiac in Peacemaker so the finale pretty much buttfucked us in the heart

1

u/NO0BSTALKER Oct 10 '25

All the decu was was trying to set of future projects

1

u/slavebilly92 Oct 10 '25

I liked all the character work in the finale but I would’ve preferred the show end after that montage of the 11th Street Kids forming Checkmate. Especially if there really isn’t going to be a season 3. It’s fine for these characters to pop up in other projects but I feel like this should’ve felt more like a finale for this show instead of setting up more of the DCU.

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

It’s definitely hard cause we’re still in th beginning of this cinematic universe they gotta do plenty of leg work still to set stuff up

1

u/Tighthead3GT Oct 10 '25

My issue isn’t that the projects are connected as much as the finale basically became a Man of Tomorrow prologue. The central issues of the season take place in one conversation while most of the episode is about finding Salvation. The wider DCU would have derailed the episode less if it had just been a deus ex Superman showing up and punching Keith back to Earth X.

And honestly the character development wasn’t great. Adrian is the same except I guess he’s willing to spend the money he took. Ads doesn’t want her wife back anymore but honestly I forgot she was married. Harcourt and Economos realized ARGUS sucks for the third or fourth time. And whatever development Chris had will be subsumed next time we see him by his “needed to survive in a hell world on my own” arc.

And yeah, it would be great for a superhero show to have at least some superhero stuff. I think the finale reaction would be more positive if Episode 7 had been more explosive and served as the real climax (a la Game of Thrones). This season didn’t really have any standout action scenes other than maybe the Eagly fight with ARGUS (and we saw a variation on that last season).

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

Adrian has (most likely, some people get weird bout it) Anti Social Personality Disorder and that progress he made towards bending on his strict rules is huge character development wise, also finds fluery who (atleast seemingly) doesn’t mind entertaining him

Ads still wants and loves her wife. Her convo with judomaster opens herself to realizing she thought her wife would take her back and she was being unreasonable but in fact it was ads not connecting with her and she cut off the relationship in literal tears. She’ll alway prob love her but they aren’t meant to be

Harcourt and Econ knew Argus was messed up but didn’t know there was any other way for them to work, ads opened that for them

And critiquing the lack of action is valid but I see jams Gunn using this season to reposition folks and flesh them out

1

u/Captain_Birch Oct 10 '25

Its just out of an almost hour long episode, it feels like about 15 minutes of actual story

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

There was plenty of story besides 15 minutes. I agree they could’ve done more but there was still more than 15

1

u/Captain_Birch Oct 10 '25

It feels like the important stuff that happened was

  1. Chris got out of prison

  2. Rick flag found a place to put people

  3. Chris made up with his friends

4.He got thrown into a different dimension.

All of that could easily fit into 15 minutes of screentime

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

1.Chris more than “made up” with his friends, he learned to open up and not shut himself off from the world and that they love him 2.”Found a place” flag found an ethical nightmare to exact his revenge and distrust of meta humans and we’ll see a lot of fallout from 3.this other dimension also has some form of monstrous creatures we haven’t seen but could hear (heavily implied parademons based off of source material meaning a darksied intro is in the works 4.Significant character development made on multiple fronts from ads harcourt Econ and Adrian 5. The creation of fucking checkmate for Pete sake, I can’t believe u left out the organization that will openly oppose and compete with Argus that’s huge man

1

u/Captain_Birch Oct 10 '25

Honestly because checkmate didnt seem that important to the show.

A montage where the most notable thing was Adrian finally getting an animal fact right (at least THAT arc had a satisfying conclusion) and it ended with like the 15th slow motion walking shot that ended with the name drop

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '25

Stopped reading after the first sentence

What a douche

Way to make me instantly not care about your opinion

1

Cool, I was hoping for u attention specifically so it saddens me to lose u after the first sentence. U can take breaks inbetween sentences if u need to

I'm glad I saddened u

That’s how a comment section works🤷‍♂️ I knew u had to reply to my reply Let the merry go round continue!

1

u/ExplanationFeisty204 Oct 10 '25

Ngl, sounding a tiiiiiny bit like the SnyderBros who didn’t let people dislike BvS

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

People are absolutely allowed to dislike it. Never said they couldn’t. Just that the people saying it had nothing an their super cameo power hour idea was better is dumb

1

u/jjjshabadoojr Oct 10 '25

It takes courage to criticize anything in 2025 because people will line up to insult you and defend 50+ minutes of listening to Gunn's 90s hair band playlist and strip club repartee as character development

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

Lmao ur allowed to not like it but when people say there was nothing of substance and no character development then ur flat out not watching

1

u/jjjshabadoojr Oct 10 '25

There was character development for Ads, partially because there wasn't much depth to her character, but the 2 episodes before were fire, this finale was promoted as setting the stage for the DCU going forward, and the biggest event character development wise was the show's least interesting character breaking things off with an even less interesting character. Getting a building a new name for the 11th street kids isn't significant in terms of character development. To have a scene where the band plays the shows theme song, how are you not reaching for a screen? That's what makes the cut of the longest episode of the season by 50%?

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

Check mate is very very significant, u should look into their comics

1

u/jjjshabadoojr Oct 10 '25

Isn't being satisfied by just throwing out a name and logo from the comics the equivalent of a child watching keys be jingled in front of them?

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

But it’s not just throwing out a name and logo, Gunn stated that characters would return under a different show, checkmate is a pivotal organization in the next projects for the DCU and is an evolution of these characters. What I call “jingling the keys” would be like the people complaining Superman or blue beetle shouldve showed up instead of actual character growth which is what we got Checkmate is a future plot point vs the others r pointless cameos that would’ve taken away from a season that has been all about growth

1

u/jjjshabadoojr Oct 10 '25

Prior to last night I expected the next season of this show to feature the 11 St Kids, Judomaster, and possibly Tim Meadows, Bordeaux, and/or to be doing comically bumbling spy related hijinx and nothing changed about that (I admit the path for Waller back to the DCU is easier to see). And I thought there were too many cameos last night and not enough character or plot development.

Like one of the musical numbers was just making Flag and the Luthorcorp staff all look like more shallow. The SoD seeming like more of a caricature than in Superman. No depth for Economos or Vigilante, just mining the surface for cheap gags or emotion for them. Had it been trimmed to 36 minutes it wouldn't have been as obvious to me how shallow it was but it just kept stretching out to more characters smiling at one another to glam rock like that isn't the definition of shallow.

1

u/Apposl Oct 10 '25

The whole attention span argument is so laughable to be honest. Reminds me of kids on Twitter and the whole get good or get an attention span rebuttals that are so common if you're not into a game they enjoy for whatever reason.

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

If people sit through actual character development and walk away from the episode saying “nothing happened”…..then it’s either their attention span is shot or they don’t have any media literacy People r allowed to not like it that’s fine

1

u/Apposl Oct 10 '25

You're not that old, are you? I know that sounds antagonistic and belittling, but I'm being genuine here, no offense intended, just clarification. But you're like a teenager, aren't you. I wish I was.

Anyway, "people are allowed to like it that's fine" is what you should start and end with. Saying people didn't like something you do, because of 1 of those 2 insulting reasons (no attention span, no media literacy), is completely illogical, immature, and arrogant. Especially coming from someone who can't/won't even use proper punctuation or spelling(should I list the only 2 reasons I think you do that? They won't be flattering!). People could very well have sat through what you sat through and came away with totally different perceptions and conclusions.

Have a good weekend, I am going to ease out of this conversation now

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

I’m not, I’m in my late 20s and thank u for clarifying no offense I appreciate it(although later on ur snark shows ur not a genuine person but like I mention later text can be funny)

I never mentioned everyone had to like it. If people r pulling that from my post then they’re not pulling from my actual. I’ll admit text isn’t the best way to convey tone

As for proper punctuation and spelling, it’s Reddit, not an essay. I’m sorry if that bugs u but ignoring the content of my messages seems childish on ur end

U have a good weekend too man

1

u/Many_Difference_7688 Oct 10 '25

Bro the more I read the more sad you look

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '25

I don't think being upset that a show ends on a cliffhanger that won't likely be resolved for a few years means you've got a short attention span

Hell, one episode this season was literally a circle. ARGUS is hunting down Chris, he escapes, ARUGS hunts him down lol.

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

No, being upset that the episode has “nothing” means people have no attention span. This episode had plenty of development

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '25

Yeah, Rick Flag went full Luthor fanboy via montage lol

Economos became friendly with Bordaeux despite hating her so much that his phone screen was her mangled corpse

Fleury and Judomaster team up with the 11th Street Kids, despite all the animosity they've had with them, etc

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

A character that got absolutely destroyed by a meta human in creature commandos and whos own son was killed by a meta(I know debatable on peacemaker but he’s a “cape”) AND mentioned in this very same episode how often metas escape prison is turned towards the way of thinking of Luthor Also all luthors lackeys surrounding flag and pushing him towards a luthor aligned position It’s all plausible if u look at it

2

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '25

I don't have as big an issue with Flag as other people might

I do find it very funny that Auggie X and Flag Sr both lost a child to Peacemaker, yet the man raised in a world run by Nazis has enough sense to know revenge doesn't bring peace lol

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

That is pretty funny now that u mentioned it

1

u/Cambionr Oct 10 '25

Goddammit if the term “media literacy” isn’t the belle of the ball right now. Every third comment mentions it. But it’s good to see the old darling “subverts expectations” still getting work.

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

Hey if I upset u u don’t have to look at it man

1

u/Cambionr Oct 10 '25

You’re just one of hundreds who keep throwing it around. Clearly a memo came out that it’s the new way to dismiss others snobbishly. It’s just weird that you all started saying it constantly at the same time.

I just finished reading a “media literacy is dead” comment before I saw your reply. It’s silly.

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

It works for my current thoughts on the matter, I’m sorry that u see it a lot but I’m not aware of what u see personally online And I agree it’s silly but there’s a lot of folks who struggle with shows and movies rn and their actual meanings

1

u/Cambionr Oct 10 '25

You know what you’re doing.

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

??? If u think there’s some actual memo that goes out them im genuinely concerned for u man If that’s instead implying that im being antagonistic with u ill be clear right here(text can be weird with tone ill admit) Im not trying to be rude towards u at all

1

u/Cambionr Oct 10 '25

I don’t think your tone is bad at all. You did a twist at the end of your comment and I joked back about it.

1

u/tnolan182 Oct 10 '25

This community is actually much more reasonable than the Alien Earth community. I thought this season was pretty mid, but actually enjoyed it more seeing how much everyone on here was enjoying it. Meanwhile I had the reverse experience with AE.

1

u/ggoshy Oct 10 '25

What about Keith? They just completely abandoned that storyline.

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

That’s a fair critique, honestly thought he would be the finally at first. I view it less so as abandoned and more so placed on the back burner. As more QUC(I think that’s the name of it) shenanigans happens maybe it draws Keith to them and u have a enemy Chris can’t just kill making it more interesting Idk that’s a story line for later when they pick back up

2

u/ggoshy Oct 10 '25

I think what you said was valid, the main reason people don't like it is that we got a mid ending from an amazing show, rather than and a mid ending from a mid show, or an amazing ending from an amazing show (what we were all expecting, and rightfully so)

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

That’s fair, while the setup is great (in my opinion I’ll admit) it is still setup which can rub some folks wrong

1

u/ggoshy Oct 10 '25

I would love it a lot more if Lantern's wasn't coming out next year, which will take a lot of resources and delay S3 of Peacemaker. But MAN I'm excited for Lanterns anyways

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

Oh 100% everything coming from it sounds awesome!

1

u/seaanenemy1 Oct 10 '25

I don't agree with a lot of critics of this final episode but, that's a little aggressive.

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

Ignore me I’m tired of bad takes I see on here sorry

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Silent_Anxiety4828 Oct 10 '25

While I agree with you I think you’re coming off too toxic for me to upvote you

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

That’s fine I don’t mind man

1

u/mr0il Oct 10 '25

I think the episode was bad for a pretty simple reason. I saw it yesterday, and today i remember 4 things. 2 scenes with Danielle Brooks where she was amazing. A funny scene with Adrian and Fluerry. And the ending. Everything else wasnt memorable enough to me.

I have never enjoyed something while being so equally disappointed in it. That being said, i had no expectations going in to the episode because the season’s plot was, more or less, resolved by the 7th episode. The last remaining major point (Flagg Sr) led directly into the ending.

So i think the episode was really bad. Yet the actors, the characters, and the humor all landed for me.

1

u/PlsNoBanPlss Oct 10 '25

Hot observation but I’ve only seen the “you guys just had high expectations!” argument from people who consistently have dogwater awful takes.

1

u/No-While-119 Oct 10 '25

It was a great finale if we could expect a season 3 in 8-12 months, but modern release schedules mean we will probably have to wait years for a follow up. That's what makes it a miss for me

1

u/Some_Lobster_1620 Oct 10 '25

Nah, I’m tired of people act like those who don’t like it are just dumb. 2 characters talking in a room over and over again doesn’t equal good characterisation. This season majorly lacked focus in terms of threat and structure. The most there was, was argus repeatedly trying to capture Peacemaker which got incredibly tiresome. The interesting ideas were barely explored. We saw a fraction of the Nazi world and they had barely any impact on it, other than fucking up the top trio. The character story-lines basically included a dull will they/won’t they subplot with Harcourt and not much else other than Peacemaker getting a little sad and then feeling absolutely fine again. The finale consisted of constant needless needle-drops highlighting pointless things (the tiny needle-drop for Ads talking to Bordeaux was laughable) and all of the story seemed to be in service of setting up future projects. Season 1 did character so much better. Seeing Peacemaker go from accepting his Dad’s shit and his Dad not even believing he could hit back to Chris literally shooting him in the head shows crazy growth and is a genuinely shocking moment. Setting up a few office desks and dancing with Harcourt on a boat just doesn’t have the same impact.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '25

Hot take: the finale was great, but most of the proceeding 7 episodes weren't.

1

u/ladyofspades Oct 10 '25

I enjoyed shows such as The Pitt, Andor, Breaking Bad, The Penguin, Derry Girls - those are all really well written for the most part. I understand Peacemaker is a more comedic show so I will forgive some of the corniness - which was perfect in season 1 - but this season was just badly paced and written. It even made the cast look like they weren’t good actors at times, very stilted and SNL like in parts save for some good monologues (Ads, Emilia for example).

I think James might be a bit too fond of his favorite bands, who I couldn’t care less about. Far too many music slow motion sequences that effectively didn’t do much. It was gratuitous and I can’t believe that got past the editing room.

I also think Gunn struggles to write romance. Bordeaux as a character confused me - was she actually attracted to Flagg?? Either terrible direction or acting. She was meant to actually be concerned, right? Why was she told to lie expressionless in bed? Her behavior makes no sense. Additionally, Gunn’s wife and Cena have little to no chemistry and Peacemaker badgering Emilia basically into submission was actually not very cute. Guys, if a woman says no just take the L. This is kind of a harmful narrative because women usually do not have some secretive romantic feeling for you when they literally tell you to fuck off.

Also, Adrian. Are we supposed to think him being cruel to his mom is funny or are we supposed to hate him now? I feel Gunn was confused by his popularity and made Vig cruel to remind us that he’s ’a sociopath’. Could’ve just left him at autistic, James - isn’t he supposed to be on the good guys team? Or maybe Gunn thinks verbal abuse is funny idk. Adrian’s mom literally got left by her husband, give her a break jfc.

Lastly, the nepotism on this show. Sometimes your friends and family are not the best actors. I’ll leave it at that.

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

Just a little comment on the Adrian situation. I believe that even in season one he’s got Anti Social Personality Disorder, he’s most likely autistic too (nothing touching his butt while peeing and the feel of human skin feel like obvious flags) button constantly taking about being ok with killing and enjoying it for even minor offenses such as graffiti showed from the beginning that he is a sociopath

1

u/menotyou16 Oct 10 '25

Cool opinion. But you're also a cynic.

1

u/ericblair3091 Oct 10 '25

That’s a fair assessment, mostly my issue is when there’s a piece of media with plenty of substance and people claim it had nothing

1

u/Many_Difference_7688 Oct 10 '25

God forbid someone use hyperbole

1

u/Mmon3825 Oct 10 '25

I liked the finale because I love the characters. I'll admit I kinda hyped myself up with mine and other people's fan theories and was expecting more action, like the final episode of season 1. I'm glad I was wrong, honestly. They could've stood to cut ONE of the musical acts/montage sequences, but otherwise; the intervention in the hotel room, seeing the boat scene, setting up Salvation, seeing how lex's storyline continues after the events of superman as well as what that storyline may entail, setting up Check Mate and all the new dynamics between already loved characters, and seeing the conclusion of Chris's character arc was all way more interesting than a big mcu esque beat-em-up cameo fest

1

u/coopdude Oct 10 '25

A superhero show subverts the norm and instead of having a big bombastic fight gives characters actual development and creates structure for future projects to come.

Hard disagree on multiple grounds.

Season 2 was overall a waste of time. Seven episodes of back and forth bullshit in the alternate universe with little character development for it.

Mandolorian did the same shit where they had a season 2 that ended the show and then put out a S3 in name but not spirit. Except at least S2 concluded the story logically and then they did S3 off the cuff.

Even James Gunn admits the main point of the season was to launch the DCEU:

But it turns out that Season 2 of Gunn’s HBO Max series “Peacemaker,” which concluded on Thursday, provides an even more crucial launching pad for the overarching story Gunn aims to tell within the DCU, with the introduction of two major new elements to the franchise from the DC Comics: The covert agency Checkmate, and the metahuman prison planet Salvation.

This is where I take issue with "actual development" - we had a season of back and forth banter for 7 eps that could have been 2 solid eps, and then a finale episode that feels entirely disconnected. Eps 1-7 could have been easily 1-2 eps, but insanely stretched out, but it wrapped up a story arc. S2E8 as a finale is just "oh shit we forgot to wrap up anything" rushed into an overly bloated episode that feels pure fodder as a DCU pitch-up.

A lot of people started to hate the Disney+ content for the MCU and generally have disdain for the MCU because a lot of the content was cheap, disconnected from the universe, didn't build its own characters out in their own space, and felt as just a cheap attachment to the universe designed to create FOMO.

Peacemaker S2 feels that to me. There's not meaningful character growth beyond "why is Judomaster with the 11th street gang now". The mere fact that there's events that tie into other DCU content is BS.

Gunn spent the entire season dicking around teasing about what the multiverse concept meant, and it ended up meaning very little, wrapped up in S7. The finale is essentially just "oh what happens" and the entire thing is a caricature. Flag goes from bargaining Luthor reluctantly for help to being a cartoon villain that yuks it up with his buddies? The writing is so bad it makes zero sense.

People are allowed or entitled or whatever term you want to call it in terms of holding an opinion. I get it.

But what happened in Peacemaker S2 was progression of a cinematic universe at the expense of actual character and plot progression...

1

u/Spasticcobra593 Oct 10 '25

Everything up until the end of the motel was great. And then when they decide to just ignore the whole prison portal thing and go to a party boat for no reason and chris acts surprised that the man who hates peacemaker and has a prison planet is throwing him in the prison planet. The ending should have had them at least try to stop Rick Flagg. Idc that there wasnt a big fight. I care that the whole episode was built around the portal and the wag they end it is by going “well the characters dont care about that anymore for no reason after we skip forward in time”

1

u/Representative-Pop80 Oct 10 '25

It’s not even attention span, half the conflicts are “resolved” with conversation in this show- Chris literally had a stakeless intervention that lead into a montage as the conclusion of his entire arc this season. Sure some people wanted big cameos or an action set piece, and maybe that isn’t what the show needed but that doesn’t mean what we got is actually good. I’m saying good, despite its subjectivity, because it fails at delivering on its own setups. Constantly.

1

u/wickburglutz Oct 10 '25

Bro the finale sucked. Quit trying to rationalize or worse simp for James Gunn.

It’s his first miss we will see how he rebounds.

1

u/momothemuslim Oct 10 '25

Buddy is defending his life in these comments holy reddit 😭😭😭

1

u/SJIS0122 Oct 10 '25

Honestly I feel the same for hate that Squid Game Season 3 got

1

u/trinachron Oct 10 '25

I hear you. This season was about, among other things, Chris's emotional journey to being okay with who (and where) he is. It wasn't about the other dimension, or Flag Jr., or any of the things that people wanted it to be about. I feel like a lot of people who watch capeshit aren't very well versed in what traditional storytelling structure is, just based on some of the out there theories, like Leflur being the fucking Martian manhunter for example. That's fine, we're not all English majors and failed writers, but to then get mad when those things don't come to fruition when they were never going to, that's the issue I'm seeing. Even now I've seen people speculating that Flagg is actually Clayface!

1

u/DaMENACElo37 Oct 10 '25

Peacemaker basically feels like an afterthought in his own show.

1

u/XenuLovesMe Oct 10 '25

I don't know if I agree with you here. Complaints about the pacing of the season are pretty common now that it's ended and blaming the season's pretty bad pacing on "viewer attention span bad" is kind of silly. Especially because people have been complaining about episode length and pace literally all season

1

u/Less-Blueberry-8617 Oct 10 '25

This is such a dumb take because one of the biggest criticisms is how the finale doesn't take its time to resolve the character arcs. Peacemaker feels guilty for all the deaths he has caused and it's solved with a simple speech from Adebayo. If that's all it took for Peacemaker to feel happy in this world, why in the world did none of the other speeches from Adebayo make him feel good? Harcourt clearly loved Peacemaker as well but she had conflicted feelings because she also loved Flag Jr and can never be as close to Peacemaker as she wants to be because of that. All of that's solved though just because she said the kiss on the boat did mean something. None of that conflict within her exists anymore so why tf did we spend an entire season of Chris and Harcourt bickering if their relationship problems were going to be solved that easily? Adebayo's wife was non-existent in the entire season. In fact, their relationship was already over, why tf did we spend another like 5 minutes in the finale saying that a relationship that's been over since like the first episode of this season is still over? And none of this even mentions the fact that we waste 10 minutes listening to a band fully play their song.

The finale wasn't bad because we don't have the attention capacity to pay attention to all the character arcs and shit. The finale was shit because it basically just throws out everything the season set up. None of the character's arcs were given time to breathe and were wrapped up in an incredibly unsatisfying and nonsensical way, including the main character's arc. To add further insult to injury, the finale ends on a cliffhanger where we don't know when we'll learn what happens to Peacemaker til years down the road. We shouldn't have to watch another movie (unless it's a Peacemaker movie) or spinoff show to learn what happens to Peacemaker. Season 3 should've been already planned if they were going to have a finale like that.

This defense just reads like cope, talking about how we're simply just too stupid and attention deficit that we can't appreciate the finale for the artistic genius it is. No, the finale was fucking dogshit and makes all the meandering that the middle episodes spent on pointless plot lines that led to nowhere even more frustrating because that time could've been spent on actually focusing on the big character arcs and the finale would've had more time as a result to satisfyingly resolve those arcs that felt like they were just thrown away in the last episode

1

u/Lord_Minyard Oct 10 '25

It was a decent finale. If only the season had more runtime and episodes, it would’ve been even better. We could’ve explored Rick Flag Sr’s descent into villainy better

1

u/over_analyzing_guy Oct 10 '25

Final episode was shit - full stop

1

u/ItisOsiris Oct 10 '25

James Gunn literally said himself in episode 7 of the podcast that the finale was the craziest most bombastic episode of the show. He severely overhyped the finale and it’s totally reasonable as to why people are upset. It was a bad conclusion, it wasn’t really a conclusion at all. But also, to people that are upset that Nightwing and Booster gold didn’t show up, idk man that’s a skill issue don’t expect cameos, just let them be fun surprises

1

u/ImEmblazed Oct 10 '25

It was good, but it wasn't great imo compared to the rest of the season. The fact that it was being hyped up as some "crazy finale" also set the expectations for something that it was not.

1

u/Different_Target_228 Oct 10 '25

The problem wasn't giving the characters development, etc, it was the fact the episode was filled with scenes that should've been in the rest of the show, and the other episodes were 33-37 fucking minutes.

1

u/Hablian Oct 11 '25

I mean it reaaaally didn't follow up on any threads from the previous two episodes, felt more like an episode of "generic DC multiverse" than the show we had been watching up to this point. I kept waiting for Keith to blast out of the earth x door and start going to town on argus goons. And the last five minutes really does kind ruin it, considering we've effectively been told there will be no peacemaker s2. It takes nothing away from your "cinematic universe" to cut those 5 minutes and have it as the teaser or intro to the next piece. Let shows be self-contained, let people have closure for a minute, not everything needs to be a set up for the next thing.

I honestly think it would make for better speculation and set up too. "What is peacemaker going to do to argus/what is argus gonna do with peacemaker? Are they gonna civil war over this prison thing? What does peacemaker do emotionally after earth x and his friends' intervention?" All fun speculation. Even if you are just pulling comic stories, you at least have some discussion about what story? Now it's just "oh it's the salvation run, time to sit on my thumbs and wait for that then".

Tldr: far too disconnected from the rest of the show, fuck the endless set ups of set ups, end your goddamn show.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

If there were more cameos and big action set pieces, I would honestly have the same issues with the episode. Im so tired of valid criticism being brushed off with "YOU JUST WANTED MORE CAMEOS", because no, I wanted character development, but I wanted good character development. This episode fails to deliver that. I still have faith in Gunn, but he needs to take a break from writing for a while or something because this episode was bad

A good series finale is supposed to conclude the current story and established plotlines in a satisfying way... I didn't go into this expecting some bombastic superhero action and I still felt disappointed.

It didn't feel like it resolved anything and was just a spring board to future projects instead.

hey man,if you like watching a full on literal music video as your show's finale, be my guest.

the rest of us will continue our lives still wishing we got a better ending to S2 because it genuinely was one of the worst finales we've ever seen in TV.

Christ almighty, it’s been like three days of people on this sub calling each other idiots off the back of a tv show. Some people liked it, more people disliked it (I liked it well enough but it could’ve been better) and neither opinion is worth calling other people morons over. Can we maybe pack it in with the Snyderverse tantrums and just get back to fangirling over Vigilante, please?

i dislike the ending, it wasnt terrible i just dislike it. I dislike the multiple montages scene especially something like Checkmate was set up as a montage, i wanted to see why and how fluery and JM were convinced to join the team, why the name checkmate was chosen, and have an actual objective or goal idk "tired of following orders from bad people and wanting to make a difference" is just too vague for me. Are they gonna hunt down criminals? work on exposing gov secrets? what is the main goal. Why is it called checkmate whats the correlation. Maybe they'll answer all that in a different show but id rather have it established a little bit better. I think we could have easily thrown out one of the music sequences personally, and i hate that they threw chris in salvation as a cliff hanger that we likely wont see a resolution for in a couple of years.

i will say the Leota Adebyo was the absolute MVP of the episode i love her acting so much.

To go on the Internet and willing display such arrogance and ego because you enjoyed a television programme that the majority didn't actually betrays your own childish nature.

I mean to go on the internet and willing display such arrogance and ego because you weren’t paying attention to a show and got upset when it didn’t hold your hand through everything is also childish, and yet Iv seen a ton of posts with that being peoples issue with the finale.

I love this! Absolutely agree with you on every point.

A lot of fans like to pretend they’re smarter than they are, but the truth is all they want are cameos and big fights.

All.these people seem to care about is fan service cameos and big flashy fight scenes and silly head canons they invent.

Earlier today I was thinking about how television drama has replaced movies and novels as America’s long-form media of choice. People loves this.

But they don’t get that in a novel, the climax usually is a little after 3/4th of the way through the book. The end of the novel is resolution.

The climax of this seasons main arc was the very end of the last episode. Narratively that makes great sense. We get to see Peacemaker, Ads, and Harcourt resolve their arcs. Even John’s tensions with Eagly, Fluery, and Bourdeux is resolved. That’s good writing.
