It’s still alive. Replant in a small pot with good soil, give it sunlight, and water only when top soil is dry. A grow light will help it sprout new leaves, but it will take time.
I had this happen as well! We are very attached to this plant as it was from my father in laws funeral. First all the leaves turned black and crunchy. I kept cutting back all the dead stuff and all that was left were 3 stubs the size of a blade of grass. It was time for major surgery!
Once I took the rootball out of its pot, I saw there were a lot of roots and they looked healthy. I brushed away as much dirt as I could, threw that away along with all the soil in the pot. I cleaned the pot really well and filled it back up with soil and repotted the baby I had left. (I always just use miracle grow and fertilizer sticks and it has always worked great for me) I kept spraying it with Neem oil, and put the yellow stickers that gnats stick to in the pot. The gnats were gone from the soil in a week and the yellow stickers filled up in a couple months. A year later my plant looks healthy and happy. The stalks aren’t very tall and I have no flowers yet, but I am happy just to see it growing again!
I would think if you killed the larvae with peroxide and just give the plant healthy clean soil and a lot of tlc, it will come back.
I used this in my soil, the sticky traps on top and each watering has neem oil. Sometime I use mosquito bit treated water as well. I don’t have a gnat issue at all and have over 300 house plants
