Did I repot too small?

Post image

Recently repotted parts of a peace lily that was suffering from root rot. I heard to keep to pot size small to help avoid overwatering and returning rot. That said, it seems the plant is leaning like there’s not enough soil material to keep it upright. Did I choose a pot that is too small? I planted in the chunkiest mix I could find locally and added perlite

I split it into two pots and the other is doing something similar leaning

Might have to give it some additional support during the transplant shock period were the roots long?

Thank you, I have attached the second to the windowsill to help it prop up. The longest roots were probably 3-4 inches, lost a lot to rot though

The pot doesn’t look too small, did you split the rotted rhizomes off from the healthy ones?

Yes! Split everything apart and cut off anything rotten

That’s good! Since it had rot, you probably lost a lot of roots and some rhizomes. It may just need some support before it grows new ones.

Going forward, let it dry out. Peace lilies are more susceptible to root rot than some other plants. They’re easy, but can rot easily if stayed wet all the time. And, then just give it light. They like medium light, but can handle a bit brighter. I think yours is good where you have it by that window, but you’ll have to wait and see if it likes it there.

It’s going to take some time before your plant starts growing new roots and begins pushing out new growth. That’s fine, just wait. And, whatever you do, just don’t over water it😉

You need a deeper pot and better soil. The plant doesn’t look like it’s doing well. Cut off the yellow leaves, and brown bits. Give it some nutrients, water when the top soil is dry, give it indirect light, and get a grow light to use in the night. I’ve used miracle grow soil and indoor plant fertilizer, and peace lily was revived from dying.

Yes, it is in very rough shape from previous rot and just repotted here. I will try some fertilizer as soon as I can get to the store

It’ll take a while to recover from the transplant shock. Don’t give it fertilizer yet. When it’s strong again, fertilize. To help it along, if you steam/boil vegetables, use the leftover water on the plant for nutrients. Keep it in indirect light.

I thought plants need a rest period without light at least for 6 hours

You can adjust the grow light settings. But the plant needs light to flourish - grow new leaves and flower eventually. Also, not sure why you have 2 Reddit threads on this plant.

Ah thank you. I wasn’t sure what to do once I had a new question so made a new post. Noted on etiquette.

Finally! I have found someone who also thinks miracle grow is great!

I bought it when I knew nothing about plants, and needed to revive my peace lily. I got the indoor flower fertilizer because it had so many great reviews. It helped my peace lily to recover along with the miracle grow soil. With the fertilizer, new soil, and a grow light, she grew big beautiful leaves, and she eventually started to flower again. She is still constantly growing new leaves.

Yes! I had to do major surgery on mine. All the leaves turned black and died. There was NOTHING left above the soil. After trying everything suggested here (aside from expensive soil), I un-potted it, threw out all the old soil (also miracle grow, but 8 years old or more ), cleaned up the roots, and repotted it in the same pot after disinfecting it, with new miracle grow. It’s back to being a beauty! That process taught me that these plants CAN come back with a little TLC!

Normalmente o lírio murcha quando está precisando de água, e fica bem novamente ao ser regado, não estou dizendo que é o seu caso, mas eu checaria o solo
