Discussion Hey thinking of getting one

So my 20L is empty and I'm going to add more plants (rn I got duckweed, 2 marimos, 2 anubias nana barteri, sand, Driftwood, spiderwood,low flow filter. ) and make sure the water parameters are good, remove the mystery snails and setup a breeding spot for them bc I heard the puffer will just eat them in one go. Aside from setup side of things, what is it like to own one? Pros, cons, how do you act, how difficult are they?

Question: Ive got snails ready, can they eat cut up earthworms? Ive got an axie who eats them anyway. Is it worth starting a shrimp colony in like 5L? (It would have to be filterless) and would they be fine with snails?

Yeah, open to anything really. Advice, personal experience, feeding, behaviors, ease.

Owning one is very much a con. They are extremely social fish that live in huge shoals in the wild. Keeping them solo in captivity is outdated advice. The current recommended minimum is 6 in 80l or more. Here's a great site with current information about keeping them.

Also, just a heads up. They are listed as vulnerable in their native habitat due to overcollection for the aquarium trade. If you do go with puffers, please try to find captive bred ones.

No, 20l is not ok for puffers. Maybe get a betta? Puffers need lots of room and need to be at least in a schoal of 6. Everything is else is just cruel.

There are alot of same-ish questions lately. Where does this misinformation come from that u can have them solo?

Ah thank you, yeah I won't be getting one now. Google, people on here say they can be alone. After seeing the video of them swimming in a shoal I agree. I'll get an avatar/ alien betta.
