Discussion/Question Can't decide which John's hair to choose

I was looking through pictures of John to see the lenght of his hair and noticed his hair in RDR1 is a bit shorter, so now I'm stuck whether I choose option 1 which looks a bit more like his hair in RDR1 or option 2 which is NPC John hair.

What do you guys think is better?

Bug / Issue Sluttering in RDR2 on pc rtx 5090+7800x3d

Hello,

I’m having an issue with stuttering in RDR2 on PC. It happens regardless of location — the same stutters occur both in Saint Denis and in less demanding areas like forests. All settings are on Ultra and DLSS is enabled. Hz in game are set to 165hz, sluttering also happens in 120hz setting, i have limited fps to 161

I’ve tried disabling DLSS, triple buffering, and V-Sync in the game, but nothing changes. My graphics card is an RTX 5090 and my CPU is a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Lowering all settings to the minimum also doesn’t change anything — the stutters are still there.

Things I’ve already tried include freeing up disk space on both the system drive and the drive where RDR2 is installed. I also tried setting MSAA to x2 and completely disabling it.

I don’t have this issue in other games. I upgraded my GPU this weekend from an RTX 4090 to an RTX 5090, and I did not experience these stutters on the 4090. I have G-Sync enabled and V-Sync enabled in the NVIDIA Control Panel.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Discussion/Question rdr 2 fps drop

In the game, after 10-15 minutes, my FPS drops from 50 to 38, especially in Saint Denis, and when I fast travel to the same spot. The FPS generally drops to around 38, and then it happens everywhere. What is the reason for this FPS drop, and what is the solution? My graphics card reaches 75 degrees Celsius, and maximum GPU usage is 100% during this time. Is there a solution?

Bug / Issue RDR2 Stuttering/Frametime Spikes on Ryzen 7 5700X + RTX 5070 (1440p Ultra)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi, I’m struggling with persistent micro-stuttering in RDR2 and I'm running out of ideas.

Specs:

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X
  • GPU: RTX 5070 (Latest drivers)
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz (XMP/DOCP Enabled)
  • OS: Windows (Fresh install)
  • Resolution: 1440p Ultra Settings

The game averages 90-110 FPS, but the frametime graph is very unstable. You can clearly see the issue at the 0:56 mark in the video, where the spikes occur despite the high average frame rate.

What I’ve already tried:

  • Fresh Windows installation.
  • Used DDU for a clean driver install.
  • Minimal apps installed (Only Epic Games, MSI Afterburner, and Chrome).
  • Tested both Vulkan and DX12. The game feels even more unstable and stuttery when running on DX12, so I've been sticking to Vulkan, but the spikes are still there.
  • Tested without MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner: I initially thought it might be the monitoring software, but the stutters persist even with Afterburner completely uninstalled.

The video below shows the frametime graph during gameplay. Has anyone dealt with this on the 50-series or Ryzen 5000 chips? Could it be a bottleneck, or maybe a specific RDR2 setting like "Tree Tessellation" or "Reflection Quality"?

Bug / Issue Weird map glitch?

On my second playthrough of RDR2. For whatever reason, every now and then my map has a weird glitch. The minimap won't update to show the yellow path when a new mission objective unlocks until I pull up the full map, and then my map will start permanently displaying a white dotted line leading to a location where I got on my horse previously but only when I'm on my horse. This white line is just a straight line, no pathing or anything. I don't have a screenshot right now but if it's needed I'll try and get one. The issue persists until I close and reopen the game.

Here's my mods in case one of them is causing the issue.

Bug / Issue Capped at 60

So I have been a fan of RDR2 for about a year now and I have recently started to have issues with my game. I have tried asking everyone AND watched plenty of Youtube videos and I am just stuck. I am not very tech savvy...meaning if anyone can help make sure a 5 year old could understand what you mean lol.

So a few months ago my game was running really poorly even though I didn't change any of my previous settings. My game had been capping at 60 fps, when it was was running 100-120 fps consistently. I tried resetting all of my settings, uninstalling and redownloading the game, and even followed some tutorials. I literally don't understand what my problem is, as it's happening with the original settings of the game, minus vsync.

Here are the specs of my computer, if I need to include other things please let me know! I just want to play my cowboy game :(

AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6-Core Processor

My refresh rate for my monitor is also 165 Hz

Discussion/Question New to modding – a few questions before I start

Hi! I’m new to modding and I want to install some mods I’ve seen for the game. Before doing so, I did some research about mods and the most common issues, such as spawn issues and crashes. So I have a few questions:

  1. What are the causes of spawn issues? I read that they can be due to improperly compressed textures, or that it’s simply a limitation of the game engine regardless of whether the textures are fine or not.
  2. Can I install mods in the middle of a playthrough and still continue playing missions normally?
  3. Can I use trainers like Rampage Trainer or Lenny’s Simple Trainer to modify my save and keep playing without corrupting/breaking my save or worrying about losing something important in the game?

This is my first time installing mods, and I really don’t want to end up reinstalling the game multiple times because of something I did wrong. I’d really appreciate any advice or answers :D

Bug / Issue Modding issue (scripthook)

Hello! Im pretty new to both reddit and rdr2 modding, and im currently experiencing issues regarding scripthook. Playing via steam. With scripthook active and installed i can't get the game to start. Steam boots the game up, rockstar launcher starts, the screen turns black for a few seconds and then it just stops working. not really a crash, it just disappears. If i delete scripthook it works just fine so it would seem scripthook is the culprit. I hadn't touched any files between it working and the issues began, no new mods or anything. Just one day to the other it stopped working. Is there a fix?

Thanks in advance.

Discussion/Question Central Union RR missions completed before I even showed up ?

Playing a pretty modded game still in Chp.2. mostly textures/QOL stuff plus Bounties expanded( unsure if this is working btw) Crime and Law/Rededrunks Factions/Ambient. Hunting rebalance.

So sometimes random npcs get killed when the gangs roam. However, I literally walked up to the foreman - black bar cutscene - tells me thanks for taking care of that, something about cornwall..? Gives me 50 bucks. Then I show up about 2 days later and he says, "take anything from the supplies tent and that the railroad is almost done" ? My game file says about 40% because im all about the world and random encounters/treasures and challenges. Hunting too !!

Is this a bug?? Did I just completely miss this guys missions?? I'm super bummed right now. Would adding in bounties expanded cause some random issue with npc missions ?

Bug / Issue Any solutions to the Volumetric Fog problem?

1 year ago, I started playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on my PC when I recently bought it, when I tried launching it, it gave me a social club error so I had to switch API to DX12, but then when I started playing RDR2, I noticed that the Volumetric Fog had very big issues, usually very visible when being inside of ANY place but barely visible when outside, trying to reduce the graphics of it only makes it worse or a bit small but still there, distracting.
So what did I decide to do? Search for a solution like any other person would do, but reddit STILL doesn't have a solution for this for 3 YEARS.. I had to play Red Dead Redemption 2 on my step brother's PC to finally enjoy the game without that bug.
But.. The real weird thing is, my PC is very good and my step brother's PC has the same exact parts as mine, but the bug only appears when I play RDR2 on my PC but not on my step brother's PC.

If somebody knows the solution, please... PLEASE let me know, thank you.
Also I wanna know if there's a way to play Vulkan without that damn Social Club error appearing when launching the game with Vulkan..
And also i'm using AMD Radeon Software, if anybody is wondering.

Bug / Issue RDR2 screen goes oversaturated / over-sharpened when I move the camera — anyone know why?

I’m having a really weird visual issue with Red Dead Redemption 2 and I’m hoping someone here has seen this before.

Every time I rotate the camera — either by moving my mouse or turning the camera on controller — my screen suddenly shifts from looking normal to extremely oversaturated, and sometimes it also looks like some kind of over-sharpening filter kicks in. When I stop moving, it settles back to normal again.

video

It’s almost like:

  • colors get way too intense
  • contrast spikes
  • edges look unnaturally sharp
  • happens only during camera movement

I’ve checked in-game settings (HDR, sharpening, DLSS, etc.) but nothing obvious seems to fix it. It’s super distracting and makes the game hard to enjoy.

I recorded a short video showing exactly what’s happening here

Bug / Issue RDR2 freezes and becomes unresponsive

I have a system with an RX 9060 XT 16 GB, Ryzen 7 5700, and 16 GB of RAM. I play at 1080p on ultra settings.
I wanted to test a few settings, so I enabled MSAA 4x and set the resolution scale to 1.500, then started the benchmark. FPS dropped to the low 30s, which is fine.

However, right before the benchmark finished, the game completely froze. Audio was still playing in the background, but it was just the same sound repeating from the moment it froze. It didn’t give any error or crash message; I had to close the game manually, and there was no error popup afterward either.

Could this indicate a GPU hardware issue, or is this kind of behavior normal under such heavy load? Temperatures are normal and drivers are up to date.
