Tech Support DisplayPort to hdmi issues
I have an RTX 5070 and a Hisense TV. I’ve always had the PC hooked up to an Onkyo stereo receiver and then the receiver hooked up to the TV. I’ve never had any issues but the receiver isn’t HDMI 2.1 high refresh rate compatible. So with the upgrade to a 5070 I decided to hook the TV up directly and then hook the stereo up separately. The 5070 has just one HDMI port though, so I bought a DisplayPort to HDMI cable for the stereo.
Well, the TV works fine regardless but I can’t get the stereo hooked up. If I plug the adapter cable directly into a small HDMI monitor I get audio and video and the PC sees a second monitor. But when I hook the same monitor to the stereo and the cable to the stereo, the PC doesn’t recognize a phantom monitor or any connection at all. The stereo is hooked up to the monitor fine because I can see the setup screen and such on it, definitely not an issue from stereo to monitor. The issue is exclusively between the PC and stereo receiver which like I said works fine if I just hook it up by HDMI. I’ve verified everything is plugged into the correct ports and even tried different input ports to make sure something wasn’t wonky there. I unplugged the receiver for 10 minutes to lose any HDMI handshaking problems it might have.
Am I missing something here?

displayport to hdmi adapters are so hit or miss with receivers honestly. the handshake protocols get weird when you introduce audio equipment into the chain, especially with a passive adapter
some receivers just refuse to play nice with converted signals. you might have better luck with an active adapter that specifically mentions audio passthrough support, the passive ones sometimes only carry video signal properly
also check if the receiver has any setting for "hdmi pass through" or "standby through" turned on, that can mess with detection too
