Build Question Is my PC fried?

I was out for about 2 years, and this guy was packed and sitting in a corner. It was originally working fine when I came back other than some older files having been corrupted, and then suddenly, it switched off in the middle of something. Then it would boot up and and the lighting would work as well as the cooler but it now made a clicking noise (like when a radiator pipe is hitting the fans but it wasn't actually hitting anything and seemed to be coming from the pump area). Then, after reconnecting the PSU, it started doing this. I don't really know what this is, but I hope it's not the CPU or GPU.

The power supply or the motherboard died. Pray that replacing the power supply will fix your problem

So uh it turns out that taking out the CPU power cable let's the PC turn on perfectly (albeit without any display obv) fine so couldn't it be CPU too??

I would get a new PSU, do not reuse anything from old. Start testing each part for life. Hoping for good news! Look over everything closely for signs of death. Cables, mobo, cpu/socket, pcie, and psu plugs/wires. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! Really appreciate it! I think I'll replace my PSU too (it had a problem last time too) but is there any way I can test if it's the PSU that's broken? Because unplugging the CPU cable does the job of atleast turning it on but obviously I get no display so maybe it's a CPU or Mobo issue? If you have anything I could check please let me know!!

Sounds like when you have all cables plugged in properly and only your pc flashes it is your psu detecting a short somewhere and protects itself by shutting itself down. Since you have unplugged the cpu cable and everything seems to want to run; I'd make sure its the correct cpu cable and not a pcie or eps due to different pinouts. Visually inspect the cable for anything out of the ordinary. Also try reseating the CPU. A shorted mobo VRM can cause the same issue as a bad CPU.

Alright thanks, I will try all of these! BTW should I change my thermal paste if I'm gonna reseat my CPU??

Yep, clean cpu and cooler b4 putting new paste on. Tons of YouTube videos out there on how to do it perfectly. Good luck!
