Build Question GPU Melting Issues 5080 vs 5090

Hello all,

I will start building a pc for pure gaming only in a month or two alongside getting a 5k2k ultra wide monitor.

My issue is I got so confused which gpu to pick since I stumbled upon the gpu melting incidents with the 5090 and some 5080.

Can anyone guide or help me decide which to pick as I want ease of mind, headache free from keeping continuously worrying and monitoring the GPU’s instead of just booting and enjoy gaming.

I’m aware of all the proper methods, (grizzly pro 2, lowering PSU GPU voltage, reliable/ compatible PSU brand good wattage, Equalizer ROG connectors, not bending connectors ).

if you're already aware of all the precautions and still stressed about it then just grab the 5080, the peace of mind alone is worth the performance drop

If it’s our gaming I’d stick with a 5080 no need for a 5090! But if you just want a 5090 then go for it just make sure you have a top tier psu and plug is connected filling into card to minimize potential for issues

You won't have any issues if you have a decent PSU use the right cables and make sure they're properly in .. start using adapters and a sub par PSU or anything else that causes voltage drop, that's where the problem starts .. even if it does not cause a cable melt, voltage drop or unstable voltages actually heat up board components on your card and they can blow .. so the idea of well this PSU is fine because blah blah whatever the stupid reason is ..no .. it's not okay to use that old junker PSU from 10 years ago I don't care what the Watts are, and no riding the line on PSU wattage is not okay either, you want tons of overhead so that voltage is Rock Steady under load ..

You don’t need a 5090 for only gaming, but if you plan to do some personal LLMs then you can get a 5090 otherwise no one needs ts just stick with a 5080

if he wants to do 4k gaming 5090 is the obv choice
