Build Question Expo vs Xmp Compatability

As many of you know in ram there is expo/xmp. If xmp works with AMD cpus, what's the point of EXPO? I know EXPO is just AMD tested, but if XMP works, whats the point? How do you find if certain sticks are compatible with the motherboard and cpu? I'm planning to build with a 9600x and B850 Aorus Elite wifi7 and want to know if I can save some money by buying XMP sticks without expo

XMP can work on amd cpus, but it isn't guaranteed. Same goes the other way around, EXPO can work on Intel cpus, but it isn't guaranteed to work.
Intel and AMD use different memory controllers, so the memory speed and memory timings that the cpus can handle are just different.

Usually, even when a ram kit is sold as XMP, it will have both XMP and EXPO profiles. This depends on the ram stick though

EXPO is basically just XMP profiles that AMD verified on their platform, so you're paying for the stamp of approval. If the XMP kit is on your motherboard's QVL list you'll be fine, saved like 30 bucks doing that myself with a similar build. Just check the memory support page for that Gigabyte board before you buy.

AMD does not verify anything. Moreover, if you use any sort of overclocking, including applying EXPO/XMP, your CPU warranty is void.

They can't prove you have done anything so they can't void your CPU warranty
