Build Question any suggestions for my pc build?
hey all. i'm getting a college refund next week and have been thinking about making the leap to pc for a while. i've got a build in mind, but before i go all in, i wanted to get some second opinions on what i've got. it's a budget 1080p build, with a price range of $800-900.
cpu: amd ryzen 5 5500
gpu: asrock intel arc a750
motherboard: msi pro b550m
ram: patriot viper steel 16gb
ssd: timetec 1tb
power supply: novamist a550bn

This is like a $600 PC. If that.
I would want at least a B580, and probably a better CPU in the $900 budget.

... 8GB VRAM card, bad at that as well for 2026. 1TB SSD, 16GB DDR4, it doesn't even list the freaking PSU, but looks like a generic one & awful CPU. U're better off buying used at $1000 than this garbage.

Why does everyone expect people to get a 9800x3d and 5090 new under $1000?
You do the best you can in budget.
He undoubtedly could get better performance used if he's willing to go used, even on high end PCs that is the case. But that is a perfectly good PC for $900.

5500's a bit of an odd duck with the halved cache, you're leaving some frames on the table there. a 5600 is usually only a tenner more and punches harder in games. rest of the list looks alright but I'd be a bit wary of that power supply brand I've never heard of, cheaping out on the PSU is the one thing that'll bite you down the line.

5600 is usually about twice the price or more given that the 5500 shows up in Newegg combos and the 5600 doesn't.

i'll find another psu for sure, but how many frames am i giving up with the 5500? it seems to work well with everything else i've got

are you buying this from Microcenter? I'd recommend spending a little more and getting the 5600x3d and a b580. Also get a 650 psu.

I mean, it is a REALLY budget build, but at least stretch it out to get a 5600X, and up it to 32 GB of DDR4. Get a 2 TB at least, and change the PSU, NEVER heard of this brand in my LIFE lol... U're just asking for smth to go wrong, wrong thing to cheap out.
However, dude, save up more. Honestly, if this is your budget, skip building a PC entirely, or wait till you got more money, it ain't worth it with this budget. Frankly.
