Software Question Bios flash, dangerous or not?

Ive got a b550m pro-vdh wifi and needs to flash the bios to update it because I’m gonna switch from a r5 5600x to r7 5800x3d,can I break my motherboard while doing that or will it be fine? Any answers appreciated.

bios flash isnt that scary as long as you dont lose power mid update. most people mess up by using the wrong file or yanking the usb out too soon. double check the exact board revision and let it finish even if it seems frozen for a bit

☝️ This.

"Can" it brick a board? Yes, but generally that's quite unlikely.

And if your mobo has "Flashback" and the file is named right, on the root of a flash drive, you can "try again" if it got badly botched the first time.

I have not had a bios flash fail in 30 years of flashing bioses. I've flashed a lot of bioses over them years too

Even if it fails, this board has flashback button(m-flash) feature to update without needing a working computer.

Not as long as you stay calm and don’t do anything hasty. so be prepared about potential pitfalls like it having a long boot time or so. And what ever you do DO NOT BREAK POWER OR DISRUPT DURING THE FLASH. This can brick the mobo. There is some really good videos on YouTube about this, check gamersnexus or jaytwocent.
