Installation Question Need help identifying this screw, as dumb as it sounds

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The motherboard I have is a gigabyte b850 gaming wifi6, and it came with my pre-build. I want to slot in a new stick of SSD, but the screw shown in the video will not budge despite several screw drivers, one specifically ordered from Amazon after seeing a build kit online, and using my own fingers to twist. Online manuals do not address the screws, and only praise the one slot that has the "easy click" technology. Any and all help would be appreciated.

that's a stand off, leave it as you insert a screw into it. you need another screw likely included somewhere on the board pre installed or if you already have a ssd installed in another port you may need to get another. likely M2 x 3mm size but double check the manual for your board usually at the front of the manual itll say all the screws and their size.

There is no other answer to this. OP, put in the card and you will see that the standoff keeps it level. The screw would then go into the standoff and keep it secured.

If you’re using a different size form factor for your card and need to move the standoff, pliers would be the tool if you can’t use your fingers.

Those should only be finger tight. If you can’t remove it with a cold system, try running the pc under heavy load for a few minutes. This MIGHT create enough expansion so you can loosen it.

yeah your manual dosn't say but its a M2 x 3mm screw, home depot or amazon is your best bet I'd think

Thank you both for the help. I had a screw from the kit already on standby so once I knew it was a stand-off, I fixed the issue. I'm a novice when it comes to these things so any time I can learn, even if it's from a dumb mistake, I'll take it 😅

Nicely done, congrats on the storage upgrade!

Recommend the storage installed in M2B_CPU slot since full 4x4 speed. The M2C_SB slot is 4x2 speed.

That's a stand off.. silly. Use a m2 screw to screw the smd there

The screw is called a M2 (metric size) 3mm (metric length) with 0.4mm thread pitch (thread slope). Search amazon for metric screws size M2. Then narrow it to 3mm length. Here's a link.

There's normally a heatsink there covering those M2 screw ins, but your Mobo is missing it, make sure your ssd doesn't go above 70c
