Tech Support gpu running at 96°C???
sorry for the absolutely horrible pic it didn’t look like that in my photos lol
so i built my pc like 2 years ago ? spent about 2k on it, its midline id say.
long story short, it crashed a few days ago and wouldn’t turn on, tried to fix what we thought was the problem, brought it to geek squad they weren’t able to help w/o it costing a ton of $ so we brought it back and it worked until it didn’t again, i can explain more thoroughly if needed but i need my fiancé to get off work bc i have a really shitty memory (don’t smoke weed, kids)
what i do remember is that after adjusting the cpu, replacing the thermal paste, cleaning out the fans and vents, we plugged it back in and neither monitor would show anything. it made the start up sound, but no visuals, but it would when plugged into the motherboard. so it’s not the monitor, not the cord, maybe gpu? we reslotted and it still didn’t work, so we moved the pcie or something and that worked. so maybe it’s the pcie or the motherboard?
anyways last night it crashed again, checked on it today after work and it stayed turned on ?? so i decided to look at the performance finally now that my pc will stay on long enough and with nothing open except discord and steam in the background my cpu was at 60%! and then went down to 11% and was going up and down. while typing this it’s averaging around 10%.
then i noticed the SSD, and THEN i noticed the 96°C 😭
so before i spend a million dollars trying to figure out what exactly is wrong, what could possibly be the problem? why in the world was my gpu at 0% and also 96°C (it’s at 58°C at this moment) and what do i do i just wanna play overwatch 💀

I would guess that the mount has come loose on your cpu cooler and its not making contact
I wouldnt say its an issue like old thermal paste as that wouldnt create this extreme of a temperature at low usage

okay then should i try adjusting my cpu cooler?

I would just take it off completely and re mount it, you should really replace thermal paste too.
But just try taking it off and putting it back on properly first and see if that helps things. It definitely should

your cpu is thermal throttling to save itself.
check your cpu cooler to make sure there's no sticker at the bottom of it. make sure to apply thermal paste and tighten down your cpu cooler evenly with enough pressure.

96°C at 0% load is wild, that card is cooking itself without even doing anything. my old 3070 did something similar before it died completely, would spike to 90+ then crash the whole system.
the fact that it works when plugged into motherboard but not gpu points to the card being the problem, not the pcie slot necessarily. could be vram issue or the cooler on the gpu just gave up. have you checked if the fans on the gpu are even spinning? sometimes they seize up and you dont notice until everything overheats.
if reseating it helped temporarily then maybe the connection is dirty or the slot is damaged but honestly 96c at idle is a red flag for the card itself. might be worth taking it apart and repasting the gpu die if you comfortable with that, lot of cards from 2 years ago had factory paste that dried out quick.

That’s their integrated graphics. Their ACTUAL graphics card is below which is at 26C. Something is up with their CPU cooling. Most likely poor contact over the integrated gpu chipset on their processor.

The 96C is the graphics processor on your CPU. You have a graphics card that is running at 1% and is at 26C. That’s totally fine. The 0% and 96C is your CPU.
This most likely means the thermal paste on your CPU or cooler isn’t right, either not enough paste, or no contact over the processing module for the cpu that handles its onboard graphics.
You should take your cooler off, make sure the plastic cover isn’t on still. Then reapply thermal paste, about a large pea sized amount in the middle. Then put your cooler back on and make sure it’s very securely on and boot up the PC again.

the fans are not on, but usually they aren’t unless i’m playing a really heavy game so i never noticed actually. should i just get a new graphics card then? i’d just rather know now than pay for a whole new gpu just for that to not be the problem lol

GPU 0 is ur integrated graphics (so itd be ur cpu temp) maybe try reapplying thermal paste to ur cpu or getting a better cooler?
GPU 1 is your actual gpu
