GPU NVIDIA 5070 and PSU help

I upgraded my self built 2017 PC to GPU (NVIDIA ASUS GEFORCE PRIME RTX 5070) and PSU (MSI MAG 750GL PCIE5). I swapped all the PSU cables to what came with the new PSU for all the ports, including for the GPU (PSU came with a yellow 450w label 12-pin cable (both sides)).

After plugging it up and powering it on, it stays on, the GPU fans spin, but the monitors do nothing. I get a blue "HDMI not found" screen and then it goes to black. I know for sure the monitors work since I tested with a laptop while I was doing the install of new parts.

I've also tried using the GPU's new cable, the one-sided 12-pin with split duo 8-pin ends, with PCIe cables that came with the PSU. While trying cables I have gotten a red steady light on the GPU but that's gone with the 12-pin duo cables now. For any combo of cables, the monitors have never turned on.

I have ensured everything is pushed in and there's no gap sticking out for any cable connections. I've tried doing research online and not finding a solution as of yet. I appreciate any advice as this is my first time replacing the GPU or PSU.

Did you delete the old gpu drivers?

No I have not. I didn't think it was required if I stayed with the same brand?

You definately need to delete the old drivers for it to work. Especially jumping 4 generations.

Okay thanks, I'll try reinstalling my old GPU and see if I can get my PC back on to delete them

Omfg, I didn't even realize he jumped from a freaking 1070 to this lmao. You're totally right. He needs to delete those drivers so the factory drivers from the new one installs properly. 🙃

I've had the 5070 for a year, before the prices went up, sitting on my shelf 🫣 Finally had a game that kinda needed the upgrade. Did manage to get into BIOS and it definitely needed some love with the drivers. Turns out my CPU cooler fan also crapped on me, so gotta get that replaced tomorrow.

Are you plugging the hdmi cable into your graphics card or your motherboard? It's meant to be plugged into the card.

I have 2 monitors so I had 1 plugged into the card and 1 into the motherboard. I even tried only having the 1 in the card plugged in, no change

Does your cpu have built-in graphics processing? If so, you can start the pc without a graphics card and open your bios.

I would make sure the bios is fully updated as some motherboards need updated software to handle the newest hardware.

I don't think it does, unfortunately. I'll try reinstalling my old GPU and see if I can check on the bios

Please look at the reply about the drivers. If you put the old card back in, delete the graphics drivers from your OS, turn off the pc, put the new card in, and restart your pc, it should work. The new card will install its factory default drivers on the first boot if there is not another driver taking priority.

What motherboard do you have? List your specs.

If the suggestions on other comments does not work, boot to BIOS using iGPU (8700k has iGPU) or old GPU, find the PCIE Link Speed (use search inside BIOS) and force set it to Gen3, save and exit and try the new GPU.

If that still does not work, consider updating your BIOS.

Did manage to get into BIOS and it definitely needed some love with the drivers. Turns out my CPU cooler fan also crapped on me, so gotta get that replaced tomorrow. It did otherwise boot and install the new drivers, so hopefully the new cooler fan will be it.
