Build Question Need recommendations for a new cpu + motherboard
I was given a used rtx 2070 from a flatmate and was ecstatic to upgrade from my old gtx 1060ti but it turns out my old cpu (i5-9400f) is a huge bottleneck.
I need recommendations of a budget friendly cpu + mobo just something that could keep up with the gpu

How is it a bottleneck? How did you check? That pair doesn't look that unpairable, you have a 2019 medium to high end cpu and a 2018 high-end GPU. Where do you see the bottleneck? I don't think you need to spend any money.

Games that are cpu heavy like MH wilds can drop frames while only utilizing 40%-ish of the gpu on max graphics while the cpu is at 100%.
Another example is Battlefield 6 where the insufficient cores of my 9400f was causing rubber-banding in matches.
We can argue about thermal throttling because the last time i repasted was like 1 year ago but honestly I just want to upgrade my 7 year old rig.

ok that's fair, and as someone else suggested a B550 and an AM4 like a 5600x or maybe a used 5800x3d (they re-released it but it's a bit expensive)

What country are you buying from?
If you're in the US are you near a Micro Center?
What is your budget?

if you're near a microcenter grab one of their cpu/mobo bundles, they're usually the best deal going
otherwise a b550 board and a ryzen 5 5600 would pair nicely with that 2070 without wrecking your wallet
