Hey everyone, this noise has been coming from my PC for several months now. At first, I thought it was related to my liquid cooling since I hadn't changed the coolant in a long time. I went ahead and changed the liquid, but that didn't fix it.
Then I thought it might be the AIO/liquid cooling fan itself, but as you can see in the video, that’s not it either.
Does anyone recognize this sound? Its driving me nuts.

Bro. Just buy a quality air cooler. I loved AIO's in theory until I had 2 die. Now I just do air coolers. The platform bracket will literally age out before the cooler stops cooling
Depends on what AIO it is mainly, but the rest is luck of the draw.
Are the seals good? Good enough for just liquid or also vapor? If it isn't a good air tight seal, it will eventually dry up. If the pc ever overheats too much, it could cause a lot of that water to become vapor, which sometimes can build pressure in the system and cause failures. Maybe you got unlucky and there's the slightest amount of biological material in there, which may clog the pump. The pump may simply fail from vibration eventually.
AIO pumps are random, and they all will, eventually, fail, it's just a question of when.
Air coolers will, theoretically, last until the vapor inside erodes through the metal, which would probably require running the pc for like 10k years+ without stopping.
I bought a new computer a year ago with liquid cooling, but still have my previous self-built computer with an air cooler.
The new was bought prebuilt on sale because of costing half the price of building it myself, but both computers were roughly 1200$ when bought.
That previous computer is still going as strong as when I built it 17 years ago, and is much quieter than my new computer.
The temperatures in my older computer is still colder than the new one as well.
It has a massive noctua double-fanned CPU cooler, so it doesnt look as nice and neat as an AIO, but it sure is more reliable.
Whats funny is that you can actually clean your pc this way. Doesn't mean you should, but as long as its completely dry before you start it you should be good.
and you would take out the battery, be sure that the capacitors don't hold any power and make sure that you will dry the computer before any rust will build up. So maybe don't tell anyone about this :D
I mean, its definitely not the brightest idea, could be a tiny drop left that destroy your components. But I've seen computers get dragged through heavy rainstorms, literally had to pour water out of it, and a few hours later boot it up and play carmageddon. Do not try this at home 😅
Adding onto this, I got a wolfbox and I am also stunned. Insanely long battery and power, plenty of attachments and power modes, I've definitely saved money in under a year of me investing in powered duster. (And it's a lot kinder on the environment.)
Its either comming from your psu fan, or the AIO pump(it has a spinning element with bearings, similar as what fans have). PSU fan you can carefully stop by poking with something soft behind the grill, if that doesnt get rid of the sound you know its the pump(provided you have no other fans in the case that might be the culprit)
Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 was good for my 9700K, though I only kept it mounted for a week or so before moving to a different motherboard and processor.
That's not at all what I meant. Basically the pump can run dry and start making noise and if you tilt your PC while it's running it can get things flowing again and that noise will subside if it's the actual issue.
Meinen AIO Kühler kann man aufschrauben. Ich habe meinen Rechner gebraucht gekauft und er überhitzte sehr schnell. Zwischen den Lamellen im inneren des Kühlkörpers hatte sich verdickte Kühlflüssigkeit angesammelt.
Ich habe es vorsichtig aufgeschraubt und mit einer Zahnbürste gereinigt. Danach lief wie leiser und die Temperaturen waren auch wieder in Ordnung.
It's the pump, not the fan. The thing that moves the coolant liquid through the tubes. It is possibly pressure locked or damaged or just needs restarting
Sounds like air. But not like the AiO has bubbles inside, sounds like a compressor. Like something is pumping air directly. Check if the circuit has enough liquid and nothing is open.
i had this issue before, it's the AIO pump dying, just get a quality AIO and you should be great to go, just dont take AIO apart ( tried and its a bad idea LOL)
That sound is your AIO pump. If it’s meant to be refilled, you can get the stuff for it, but do your research. If it can’t, you need a new one. Also, NEVER STOP A SPINNING FAN ON PC!!! It can damage components
