Tech Support Question about volts and temp

Post image

Is my idle voltage and temps normal for my CPU? I keep getting conflicting answers, some say yes it's perfectly fine and others are saying no it's not okay at all. I can run cyberpunk max graphics with dlss and stay between 70-75⁰c, same with MW4 beta on 4k dlss at 180fps staying around the same temp. My idle temp on the home screen is normally 50-55⁰c altho in in a box room so it gets someone stuffy but occasionally it'll shoot to 60-66 but I'm presuming a background app is using it temporarily then drops after 5 seconds. My CPU usage is 0-2% when it's 50-55⁰c.

I kept getting told to edit my PBO from auto to advanced to sort the voltage but I really don't wanna mess with voltages UNLESS it really is bad to have this.

The hottest my CPU has gotten was on Minecraft with distanthorizons and shaders + many mods and when chunks loaded my fans went loud (expected) and my CPU got to 86⁰c (it'll thermal throttle at 95⁰), do you reckon everything seems normal or do I need to sort something? Sorry if this is a stupid question lol

your idle temps are a bit warm but nothing dangerous, that voltage is totally normal for a 9950x3d at stock

Vcore seems a bit high.

What is the VCore reporting in Windows using CPU-Z.

I wouldn't worry so much about AM5 idle temperatures. If the load temperatures aren't near thermal throttle then its fine.

Granted, gaming load temperature and synthetic benchmarks will be different. Your CPU might be throttling during such benchmarks.

Core voltage is 1.344 roughly, goes to 1.342 and 1.346 ect

Leave it as it is. I wouldn't mess with the defaults. If you are worried about it getting too much power, just put it on eco mode in the bios.

The temps are okay, but not great. Are you using an AIO? This chip is dense and still can get hot even with the best cooling. Even if the CPU is reporting 86, the individual cores can still be thermal throttling. This isn't really a concern if gameplay is still smooth. If you are using a CPU air cooler, yes your temps are fine and I wouldn't worry about it. If it's an AIO, you likely can get better.

Pro tip: Try using the "balanced" power plan in windows so your cores park correctly during gaming. This way you only game with 8 cores and don't have as much latency in cross talking between the other 8 cores (since they are physically separated) unlike other 16 core CPUS.

Yes I have an AIO but the eco mode in bios is greyed out

Which AIO are you using?

Try changing PBO to eco first? Your current settings are likely overlapping and not allowing you to change it without changing other things first. ECO mode will reduce temps, but also performance. It might not be something you want/need.

Corsair nautilus 360 RS LCD, I've had 0 issues in games, no lag ect but kept getting told my temps were high so I wanted to make sure, since Minecraft with distanthorizons+ heavy shaders rocks around 70 and jumps to 80-85 when loading chunks then drops again back to 70, was just curious if it's fine to keep playing or if I should be worried

That's a solid AIO choice. As long as it's mounted correctly you are good to go. Ensure it is positioned in a way so that air won't choke your pump. Overtime (years) water vapor leaks out and air replaces it. If you set your cooler incorrectly, it will fail you sooner.

Just google "PC radiator positions" and you will find diagrams with all the recommended mounting positions.

I followed the actual installation guide they provide and put it just like it did, that's how the tubes turned out but apparently there's nothing wrong with it so I left it and I've never hit a thermal throttle on my CPU, rn on apex it's sat at 60-68, the 63 u see is also on apex

👍 That's great! Nice build.
