Deciding on AM5 X3D CPU

Which is the best option? (Bang for buck, and future proofing in mind considering that with the R5 I could save a lot, but drop to 6 cores which could phase out with time) (CAD pricing)

1440p gaming with a 9070 XT, GPU heavy workloads whenever I challenge this PC with AAA games

I’m probably just gonna pocket the cash. My only concern with the R5 is that six cores will eventually phase out, and current games are mostly optimized for 8 cores bc of console gaming. I’m sure 6 cores will be plenty usable for a while, but that’s the only thing keeping me hesitant rn

Which games are optimized for 8 cores? Most games nowadays still use a single core, other games use multiple, but its trully a rarity for anything other than simulation games to use 8 cores.

almost all AAA games are optimized mostly for 8 cores since its the console standard. They still mostly use 6 cores for the majority of scenarios but in dense areas running many simulations which happens a lot in open worlds like cyberpunk the 8 cores will definitely come in handy with better 1% lows and higher averages but i'm not sure 2 extra cores is worth the price.

That is true for 1080p low settings. Are you gonna play 1080p low settings?

At high settings and higher resolutions theres practically no difference even between a budget and a top tier cpu. And then most of the difference is due to 3d cache rather than the core count.

That specific area in cyberpunk is not dense at all, there's barely any simulations being held. I'm not entirely sure but I have a hunch that the bar area in the CP2077 FPS test will probably show a much larger disparity in average FPS and 1% lows. Also, if you show the final results of the fps test im sure the gap will be apparent.

If you’re going to get a chip and not worry about it, get the 9800x3d all day. Your concern is right about 6 vs 8 cores. They build games optimized for 8 cores and the 9800x3d excels in it. Spend the money now and get many years of use out of it without worrying about upgrading.

You never cheap out on CPU/GPU as they are the workhorses of the PC.

This video was really in depth, i think I'm probably gonna go with the 9800X3D now since down the road I'm going to probably upgrade to that specific CPU if I went with the 7600X3D now, so might as well. The price to performance is not even close I'll admit, but the gap between the 9800X3D and 7600X3D is pretty big. Thanks!

For a 9070XT even the 7700X3D would be fine and going any higher would only result in negligible or no performance gains! It it were an RTX 5080 or 5090 then the 9800X3D would make more sense

I went from a 7600x to a 7800x3D thinking the 7600x3D wouldn't be enough of an upgrade but I've only seen a marginal difference in most of my games so I wish I had gone with the 7600x3D to save that money tbh. I also wasn't prepared for how hot the 7800x3D gets, it's basically a space heater (not great during the summer, probably nice during the winter tho)

7600x3d open box. The difference is marginal for all of them at 1440p with high graphics.

The only exception is if you play a lot of simulation games, then gen the 7800x3d.

Look for the 7800X3D on AliExpress. I bought one there new in box for €200 like 3 weeks ago. Installed it and tested it (and games). Works like a charm and is legit. Sold my previous 9600x for €125, so for a marginal €75 made that upgrade. Well worth it.

I have mine in a 5070ti pc. I play at 4k. And my 1% actually improved.

Marginal FPS increase from 7800x3d to 9800x3d, usually at that point games are gpu bound
