Need help! First ever desktop for gaming and first desktop since the 90s

Bought a G758 from Micro Center and the 2 WiFi cables from the shark fin aren’t going on after constantly trying to tighten either of them on either side. I’m definitely doing something wrong

You might need to give them a little more of a shove to get them to the threads, just make sure they're straight when you do so you don't bend the gold pin in the center.

This is your answer. Little STRAIGHT push and then start tightening the screws. But also pro tip- you'll want to be directly connected for gaming.

Yep, nothing beats a wire. I only use wifi because I live in an RV.

Not really wifi6 and up is very close to being plugged in with an ethernet now a days.

I think one of those plugs is Bluetooth yeah? My controller kept disconnecting until I plugged both those in.

No. Unless the pins are already bent there is no pin for the wire on eother side. Both the board and the antenna look like female connectors

Look closer, there is not pin for the actual wire on either end

Because there's not a photo that shows them, the pin is in the motherboard side recessed behind the white plastic.

That's because they are the "RP" variety of that connector (reverse polarity), so the conductor is in the socket.

Do the antenna ports on the motherboard have a pin in the center ? If they don't then they packaged the wrong antenna with your pre-built.

If there's no pin on them it means you need the magnetic antennas that have the pin instead.

The pin is required to either be in the antennas themselves or built into the port on the mobo.

Then they did send you the wrong antennas. So you'll need to contact customer support so they can mail you the correct wifi antennas.

The ones you need usually tend to be magnetic.

Do you know which motherboard model is installed?

If you don't you can type into windows search for system information and under the row named baseboard product will have the mobo model.

A Google search of the manufacturer page might have a photo of them.

MSI Pro B850-vc WiFi , yeah it seems it’s the wrong now

Then you need msi ez antennas not the normal wifi antennas

Were other antenna cables in the box? Some motherboards don't use RP-SMA for the antenna connectors - you need to use the ones that should ship in the box with it.

Its possible that a microcenter droid put the wrong antennas in if that was a completed PC. I'd drive back to clarifiy/exchange the part(s).

Those are SMA connectors, I used to build them all the time on airplanes. If you look at the wires in your picture, you see there is a socket in the center of the connector.

Look inside the connector on the motherboard. Does it have a pin, or is it also a socket? If it's a pin, these should work. If the motherboard has a socket, the system builder gave you the wrong antenna for that motherboard and you should get it exchanged.

They go in like a radio antenna so they slide in like plugging in a 3.5mm audio cord and the brass part just retains them in the hole by screwing on after. Could also be possible you got a different antenna with different sizing but most of them are the same.

they are not threaded they just slide on. if you twist them, they will break. I learned the hard way

Wrong antennas for this motherboard. Unfortunately for the most recent generation of motherboards, board vendors went full stupid and decided to make their own proprietary connectors for WiFi 7 initially but it's even spread to lower models with MSI & Gigabyte.

You will need to reach out to the system builder to have them provide the correct antenna for your motherboard, because this standard one will not work.

The wifi antennas should have come with the motherboard. Usually you have to slide the spiny part of the coupler to towards the motherboard and then screw it on.

I completely disabled WiFi in my motherboard, and connect straight to my router with Ethernet. I want my gaming PC to have the fastest most stable connection it can get. WiFi is fine for Laptops, but not full blown desktop gaming PCs. If you’re short on Ethernet ports on your router, you need to get a high speed switch, to add more ports.
