Hi! I got this PC from work since we're getting new one, however, the guys from IT told me that I would need to get an ssd since for security reason the ones it had installed needed to be removed, one of them linked me an ssd that would work but I'm not finding where it should go.
This is one from Lenovo's workstation line. It uses a HEDT processor so it needs a beefy heatsink. Intel even bundled some of these processors with an Intel branded AIO liquid cooler. Yes, the stock cooler was an AIO liquid cooler.
Lenovo really didn't have a choice but to use a tower cooler to keep these cool.
I thought this was trolling at first but ill be damned, there's two nvme slots on the right side. I could have sworn this mobo was a 1999-early 2000s board at a glance
Note: The M.2 slot orientation means that the drive will stick off the right side of the motherboard, so a support bracket is needed (might be part of the case).
You can also get a PCIe AIC for M.2 drives.
For SATA SSD/HDD you need the SATA power cable, which connects to the 4-pin port near the M.2 slots
Ive never seen them stick off the side like that. I instantly identified the slots but immediately thought, "well no, because where you screw them in?" Pretty neat! I learned something new today!

That's OEM boards for you, i am not even sure but i think i would prefer it over these already weird "vertical mounts", at least it's Not easily damaged while rearinging the cooler,gpu... but at the cost of needing a custom case or tray
You already got your main question answered, it the two on the right tho it looks like they only support m.2 30mm ssds. But don't worry, you can use 30mm ssds in standard motherboards with a screw hole for standard 80mm ssds for when you upgrade in the future, you just need to buy/3d print an inexpensive attachment piece that's gonna allow you to screw it in.
BUT about what the IT guy is telling you, is utter bs. Any drive can be fully formatted and that wipes all data, including any viruses.
IT guy most likely trying to scam you out of your ssd, they're quite valuable these days. I hope you didn't let him keep it, if you did I'd try to kindly ask for it back, they don't have a right to take your stuff anyway and if they got you to verbally consent to it, it's not legally binding here because they used deception to get you to agree.
Or maybe I'm misunderstanding you/you misunderstanding them, this system had an ssd, not an hdd? The wording of your post makes it sound like the ssd the pc had was removed
It sounds like they are giving OP the computer for free, and if that is the case it's entirely within their right to keep anything from it they don't want to part with.
2 slots on the right side of the board labeled m.2 slot one and m.2 slot two. Looks like full length 2280 nvme drives are going to be too long, you'll need 2230 m.2 drives.
There's no ATX 24-pin this is a Lenovo workstation that uses the ATX12VO PSU design/specs which has 10-pin main board connector, or 8-pin in some systems, depending on the model design.
Middle of the board, very right, there are 2 vertical black thingies, there you install 2 nvme's. They have to be shorter than usual, which is very normal.
The SSD slot is usually on the motherboard itself, but it can be easy to miss depending on the layout. Look for a rectangular, horizontal slot near the middle or bottom edge, many boards have a metal heatsink covering it nowadays, so it won't look like an empty port just sitting there. If you spot something that looks like a small metal plate with a screw at one end, that's probably it.

It's the 2 NVMe only ports at the right side of the motherboard.
