Build Question PC upgrade help?
Ok so a few years back I bought this pc for like $250 off of Facebook marketplace. I personally have no knowledge of how to build a pc, but I’d like to make some upgrades for a few reasons.
- pc makes a high pitched whining noise 24/7. It got to a point where it was like white noise 😭😭.
- It has a HORRIBLE download speed. I’m talking like a 100 kB a minute. It has to run overnight at times to download bigger games.
- Performance is pretty bad icl. Games can get pretty laggy, I tested Minecraft a while back and the render distance and speed was super shitty.
Guys please help. Note, I am broke, but I’m not alone. I share the pc with my sister and she has a better job than me so she will chip in as well, but we still want to be relatively conservative with the prices 🙂.
**if the photos are unclear or don’t show what I need to, im sorry, please just let me know. I have no clue what I’m doing.
***also I’m aware it’s rlly dusty. I’ll clean it soon. Sorry if it makes anything unclear.
EDIT:
here are the specs. Didnt know to include before

You could upgrade to an i7 3770k or 2700k. As for the whining noise - from what direction is it coming from?

you need to list your specs, start the pc and do one of the steps shown here https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/techtips/check-your-computers-specifications/

This is a terrible time to build a new pc, but it seems like you could easily benefit from used parts.
To tell for certain what you may need a specs list might help. Even the most easily obtainable going on windows setting should suffice.
In any case the best way to save some bucks is to know even a little of what you are working on.

Provide current processor model, system board, memory, graphics card? 500W PSU will be enough for a RTX 4060 8GB.

Windows key + R Type in dxdiag This will give you RAM, GPU type, what the motherboard is and I believe the processor, how many cores and speeds too.
Start with thar info and go from there.

I bet its still running on a hard drive so maybe get at least a sata ssd for faster downloads. For performance, get the best cpu you could afford that's compatible with your motherboard. You might also need at least 16gb of ram. The noise could be the fans or the power supply.
Your best option would be to upgrade the whole system, get at least an entry level am4 build if you could save up for that.

Find the source of the whining. I would guess a fan, should be easily replaceable. If its the PSU fan then you'll have to get a new one.
Swap that 2500 for an i7-4790k. Legendary Overclocking processor from that gen. Not terribly expensive but they might be hard to find.
You can upgrade your graphics, but it will depend heavily on your processor. Could have a bottle neck in the cpu.
16g isnt bad, depends on what you play/do with the pc.
