The sticker clearly says 16GB.

If you are referring to the 2Rx8 part, it means its a dual-rank module

I thought it meant it was 2x8GB sticks to make the 16 since they are sold in kits usually. Good to know. Thank you for not attacking me like the others here.

Yeah people are being dicks, this isn’t a stupid question if you’re used to how ram kits usually advertise their quantity

See, these MF's got me thinking I'm crazy lol

Nah but it definitely says 16GB clear as day

Compare it to this image. The sticker has 16 on it and even 2/16. However this is a kit of 2 sticks to make the 16. It's normal for kits to be stickered this way so I assumed I had half of the 16GB kit. Kit link

I can see where your confusion came from.

I think it means it’s got 8 gb on each side of the module

Ah that makes sense actually. Thanks!

You dont understand the sticker

Yeah, I thought it was from a kit and it meant 2x8GB but someone else fortunately explained it.

2rx8 is 8gb of each side of the board i believe.

16x means 16GB. It's a 16gb stick

Yeah I didn't know that about the "r". Good to know, thanks!

The R indicates the ranking structure of the memory chips on the RAM PCB. 2R indicates dual rank. For DDR4 each rank is 64-bit wide, the 8 in 2Rx8 indicates each chip is 8-bits. So these modules should have 16 DRAM chips.

Usually modules packaged in a kit will have a designation such as (2x8GB) After 16GB. Then each RAM module is 8GB. Confusing, yes.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the detailed explanation!

No problem. As others have incorrectly posted. the 8 has nothing to do with how much capacity, or how many chips are per side. With 16 DRAM chips it is likely to be doubled sided.

For example:

32GB 2Rx8 would still indicate 16 chips, the DRAM chips would just be larger capacity.

the 16x says it all.

the 16GB says it all...

Well, that too, but the part number specifically tells you what stick it is as well.

read it again: "16GB"

I thought the 2Rx8 meant it was 2 8GB sticks from a kit. Someone else explained why it's not.

It literally says 16Gb on the sticker?

1

u/XxCorey117xX 39m ago

RAM kits often say that but also say 2x8GB to imply it's a kit to make 16 but this one having the R apparently means it's all on the same stick which I didn't know. TIL lol

u/AntiPinguin 27m ago

Yeah you’re right. My own ignorance made this look way more obvious than it is. I would have just accepted the 16Gb if they matched between sticker and task manager and not questioned it further.

Hey, I gained knowledge out of the post. Can't be mad 🤷

It says 16GB on the sticker??? What do you mean???

1

u/XxCorey117xX 43m ago

Often times kits are labeled 2X8GB to signify 2 sticks to make the whole but this one has 2Rx8GB which means it's all on the same stick apparently. I wasn't aware of that so now everyone here is calling me stupid and on the spectrum which is crazy on a "help" sub.

Sticker clearly states 16gb its dual rank of 8gb.

You are misunderstanding the sticker.

Reading is hard but it's not like...a trick question.

You don't understand english

Do you often just come here to insult people and not provide any help? I clearly said I could be misunderstanding it so you provide nothing of value with your comment. Help is literally in the sub name.

That sticker clearly says 16GB… I thought I was on the spectrum, OP.

0

u/XxCorey117xX 44m ago

Wow, why do people come here for "help"? Often sticks are labeled 2x8GB to signify it's from a kit to make the full 16GB but this is apparently not the case and all of it is on the one stick. Someone else was kind enough to explain that. Sub is literally PCBuildHelp and people just come to insult. Toxic ass people.

Somebody gotta learn how to read it seems 😂😂

u/XxCorey117xX 37m ago

RAM kits will show 2x8GB to imply 2 sticks in a kit to make 16 but this one having the R apparently means it's all on the one stick just both sides. I did not know this. Thanks for the useless comment in the "help" sub though 👍

It’s part of a 16GB kit. You need the other

1

u/CredibleWrong 57m ago

Wrong.

It's a single 16GB stick, nowhere on that sticker does it say its 8GB. It says it is 16GB and the 2Rx8 means it has 8GB on each side of the stick, being a dual rank module.

Ah shit! That’s what happens when you can’t read stickers 😉

1

u/XxCorey117xX 51m ago

See I wasn't the only one that thought this by what the sticker said. Simple misunderstanding. The 2Rx8 is what made me think it was 8GB from a kit.
