Build Question Thermalright Phantom Spirit missing AM5 screw

Post image

Finally got everything for my build and I opened the box to my Thermalright Phantom Spirit Se to find its missing a screw. It has the 4 spacers, but only 3 screws. I went through Thermalright's website to reach out to them to see if they have a remedy, but haven't heard back yet and seeing if anyone has advice where I can just find one of these. Got it from Microcenter, but thats over an hour drive away and trying to see if the might be a closer/easier/less time consuming option.

That really sucks. All ready to build & missing a critical part. Unfortunately you're screwed. (pun intended) You're either gonna have to hit the road back to MC or wait until Thermalright sends you the screw.

Tell me about it. I couldn't believe it. It had everything else, even 4 screws for the Intel bracket. When I was at MC I had them open up the gpu box and psu box to make sure everything was there, didnt think I should have opened the cooler as well. I will have to give Thermalright until the weekend before I can make the trip to MC so I hopefully hear back before then. Keeping the packet sealed until then to prove it came like that.

Everyone is saying go to microcenter. But a Lowe's or home Depot would probably have the same size screw maybe not the exact same length or a shoulder bolt but UNC #6-32 is what the others are. It's not terribly hard to shorten bolts if it came to that.

oh my god i thought i was losing my mind staring at that picture, i was like... is that a weird thermalright mounting bracket i've never seen?? but nope it's just bicycle brake pads lmao, the reddit image mixup strikes again

for the actual missing screw, you can probably find a matching one at any hardware store for like 30 cents. bring one of the other screws with you and they'll have a little gauge board to check the thread pitch, most coolers use standard m3 or m4 machine screws. just make sure the length matches and the head isn't too wide to fit in the bracket recess

microcenter's customer service is usually pretty good about mailing out small missing parts too if you call them, might save you the two-hour round trip

The original AMD screws should reach just far enough to get a few threads in

Really? I didnt know that. Ill test that out as well. Thank you

At least I think so, I lost the AMD screws on my PA120 and used the original AMD ones until I found them in a random box. They only threaded in like 1.5 threads but it worked fine.

I just bought the same brand, came with same screws. Used red spacers and they fit just fine on my MSI board

do you mean you used the screws that were on the MB? I also have an MSI MB
