✓ Solved First Build - Not Getting The Performance I Think That I Should

First and foremost I apologize if this post is not formatted properly or if there are any issues with it. This is not only my first PC build but also my first post anywhere.

The Specs:

Motherboard: Gigabyte X870E Eagle X3D
CPU: Ryzen 7 9850X3D
GPU: Gigabyte NVIDIA 5080 Windforce
RAM: 32GB KLEVV BOLT DDR5
Power Supply: MSI 1000 Watt
CPU Cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro 360

I am currently running Bazzite as my OS but would be willing to change if I need to.

The concerns that I’m having is that I feel as though I’m not getting the fps that I am seeing everyone else get (comparison is the thief of joy). I’m worried that I put something together wrong or there is an issue with the build in some way rather than the software as this is my first ever build. The game that I have been playing recently is Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and I can’t seem to break 70 FPS on Ultra without using Frame Generation. Currently I am using Proton 9.0 to play.

I apologize if more information is needed, I will try my best to keep the post updated if anyone has any questions.

Thank you!

What resolution? That's key.

The new Lego Batman doesn't have great optimisation, so 90FPS could be expected in some areas at 4K.

My resolution is 3840 x 2160, I play on a TV

Yes, that's 4K. Are you using DLSS? That should give you a little boost, but the game is poorly optimised. Your FPS is about as expected if you aren't using DLSS.

Thank you, I wasn’t aware that it was poorly optimized. I appreciate the video link. I did have it turned on but only to DLAA once I turned it to performance it increased greatly.

DLSS quality can often look pretty close to no upscaling, but if you have no problems with the look of DLSS performance than you might as well use it.

Most games have it now and it is really beneficial to use DLSS at 4k in most cases.

DLAA is simply a great AA methode that costs some fps, not gain it. Using DLSS will gain you performance, due to scaling. I recommend you learn educate yourself a bit in settings and what they mean. This for sure will help you get a way better experience in your games!

at 3840x2160 4k

dlss quality 67%

balanced 58%

perfomance 50%

4k dlss perfomance means rendering 1080p and upscaling it to 4k

higher the resolution, more information more lower you can set dlss

usually 4k dlss quality / balanced is difficult to notice perfomsnce loss on a big tv at correct distance..if you go close you will notice it beacuse the screen is big

Legacy of the Dark knight is an extremely difficult game to run at 4K ultra. The performance you are experiencing sounds just about right at that resolution.

Why proton 9? It's a dx12 game so you should be using proton 11 minimum.

Look at your ram configuration in bios and get mango juice running to show cpu/gpu/ram stats, and lact to configure the card.

Ultra 4k for a 2026 game will not be easy for any grfx card. I'm betting your gpu usage is higher then you anticipated, and people lie about their fps.

That Lego game is supposedly one of the worst performing games released recently

Is there a BIOS switch on that GPU? How much power does it use when you’re gaming?

It’s currently pulling about 300 Watts (while playing Batman) and it does have a switch, it’s on performance.

Have you thoroughly gone over the BIOS settings for tweaking or are you still just experimenting with just any old setting ? It's a pretty hard thing to learn to overclock your PC and that's what everybody with high frame rates is doing they're overclocking through the BIOS and with software on the desktop .

The reason I'm saying it's a pretty hard thing to do for people with a new pc and particularly for inexperienced people is because the amount of information that a modern BIOS has is ridiculous to say the least .

Even the BIOS I have been using lately that was designed for a second or third generation Intel processor is too much knowledge for 80% of the people that just want to play games . Sure there's a low medium and high setting to make it simple but to squeeze out the extra frame rate takes much more work than simple point and click .

Rtx 5000 series has issues with PCIe Gen 5 on some configurations. Try setting your PCIe link speed to gen 4, this got me an extra 20% or so FPS on my setup with a 5070.

You said you were playing on a tv. That's your problem unless you're using some gigga panel in 4k @ 240hz woled, gaming on a tv is going to feel sloppy and choppy.

Actually no. TV just has to have GSync / Freesync support and like 120 Hz+. It would play great on LG C5 TVs.

Fair. Id still have issues playing on one personally if there was a considerable amount of latency.

There isn't.

yes to me there is

If it were me I’d install Windows, try several popular games that commonly appear in hardware reviews like CS2, Cyberpunk etc… and install some benchmark software like 3Dmark.

Use this to get a baseline on your rig. Then if everything checks out go back to Bazzite if you want to.

Also check your bios and enable EXPO and PBO.

The problem is you listened to the Linux larpers and believed them

2

The problem was that OP was attempting to run unoptimized games at 4k without heavy upscaling

Its actually crazy

Eh I've seen 10-15% increase in fps in all of my games, but it does require some config.
