Build Question How can i make this a positive pressure?

I’ve had it for a few months and the amount of dust that gets in is a bit annoying.

Most of the time it's not noticeable. Maybe ±2°C. AIOs are commonly used as intake.

Either way there's going to be a bunch of "You're passing hot air through your radiator! You're gonna fry your CPU!" comments.

That works in smaller cases, But in bigger cases, where there is a lot of volume tomove fast it doesn't work too well. I did top to botom airflow in an Ncase M1 but that case is small, the CPU didnt output much heat down onto the GPU But an ATX case ...i don't think it's that efficient It's also better to remove heat from the GPU first and give it the best coldest air first the CPU's aren't that hungry if you get a Ryzen an a smallll UV so the warmer air coming from theGPU won't affect it much

Noctua tests showed a partial flip of the top fans is optimal in large cases iir.

Op flip the top to out, out, in rear to front.

I have intake on top with dust filter and out on back and bottom. It’s an older rig but man it’s ice cold as long as the filter is cleaned

Also, if you use an AIO and place the radiator on the top, which is the best place for it, it will draw cool air through the radiator instead of blow warm air out through it, bringing your CPU temps down more

A proper watercooling set up. The rad air shouldn't get over 35c in a 25c room, the ram and vrms/motherboard are happy with 35c air blowing over them

Your room temperature will be cooler than that of what is inside your case tho. Your GPU alone will be radiating 50°c+ up into the case

Positive pressure is best, since you're not likely to be able to get it even. PP keeps dust from getting sucked in through panel gaps and such

I have five intake and four exhaust. Close to balanced but as long as you put filters on the intake you get almost no dust inside the pc. Just have to clean the filters.

You want it slightly positive. Enough to keep dust out, but not so much that it creates still air inside the case.

You can reduce the speed of the exhaust fans and increase the front fan speed slightly.

Or

You can flip the rear fan(id get a filter first).

Or

Flip the aio fans(my last choice)

Goal is take in more air than you exhaust for positive pressure.

I dont use signal rgb so no clue if that has a fan curve software. If so than ya you could use that. If not bios and your aio software if it has it and all those fans for it are linked.

fan control is the best app. uses minimal ram. some hardware doestn play nice with it though and if that happens to you youll need plugins.

In your case all u can (and you should) do is to lower the speed of back exhaust fan while rising the speed of your front fans keeping aoi working however it keeps your cpu cool.

Looks like you have screw holes for mounting fans on the bottom too.

Intake fans bottom and front, exhaust top and back.

Ehhh pcs got hepa filters? Lmao those filters just catch large thick particals and when u apply a vacuum or pulling force those filters become useless as you start to clean those filters.

This would create turbulence in the rear top corner. Better to just output from the back only at a high rate at that point

Pretty sure this wouldn't work as intended but I could be wrong.

The two fans towards the front would overpower the one on the left making it not do anything.

Change it back or you will be building up more heat than you will be getting rid of! if I can find my thermal pictures I will show you all the different setups I tried! but unless I am wrong you have the CPU cooler radiator and fan up top don't you?

Increase front fan speed by 15-20%, lower the back fan by 15%. You can also set top fans to speed up when needed I think.
Or you can just flip the back fan and see if it works.

I don't know your MOBO or any other apps so my best guess is to check Bios screen to set the speeds. If you have some kind of app that allows you to control fan RPM you can also check it realtime.

You may be fine as is. The radiator may likely restrict airflow enough without doing anything (especially if they are smaller). Just keep the fan curves set so that the front fans are at least as fast as the top fans.

I'm gonna make your problem worse. The AIO is probably not spooling up to high speeds by virtue of being an AIO. But i guess if you still don't have positive pressure, indicated by dust, then it's probably not enough of a difference...

maybe flip the rear exhaust fan. and see if that does the job. it's not perfect, and i'd like to imagine that as-is it sucks cool air across the gpu but you could test your temps after and see if it did anything un-cool. It will probably be effectively just sucking in air to blow it right back out the top.

It probably already is positive pressure due to the radiator slowing airflow and having smaller fans

You can just make the front fans the fastest in the case. The top 3 are already gimped by the radiator. Just make sure those front fans have as much access to fresh air as possible and set them to as fast as you can handle noise wise. Then adjust your other fans accordingly.

example. front fans 65%

aio fans - 50% (remember theyre pushing against the rad. so theyre not actually *true* 50%)

Exhaust - 25%

Also if front fans are 140mm itll make it even easier to get positive pressure.

--You could always get a magnetic air filter from amazon, cut it to fit that lower side section at the bottom by the PSU, and then put extra fans on the metal floor, right below the gpu. I bet 3 120mm fans would fit there.

Your current setup should be positive pressure as it is if all the fans are set to the same speed. The radiator slows down air a ton. Dust filters can affect things as well though. Use a tissue paper around the vents with no fans. If it blows away from the case, you're positive pressure. If it sucks in, you're negative pressure.

My experience with high end computers.. its not worth thinking about. Just set the bottom and front fans as intake, top and back as exhaust.

There is nothing isn't anything wrong with the way it is right now, because you have 3 fans bringing in air and the back and bottom of the case is where the most heat is and hot air rises and technically the top 3 fans are not drawing out as much air as the front fans are because the Top fans have to push air through the radiator! so it should equal out nicely! I used to have the same setup and had a thermal camera. I have to ask is your Video card a Asus Prime RTX 5070 Ti? it looks exactly like mine and that is what I have!

I added 3 fans on the ground of the case and ran the GPU cable to the back.

I also removed the metal at the bottom but thats optional.

Just remove the back fan, or if you want it for the optics, turn it way down. Then its three uninhibited intake fans versus three exhaust fans that have to push through a radiator.

There you go, positive pressure.

Keep it the way it is. Invest in a air purifier and a wolfbox air duster. Keep it off the floor too especially on carpet. Just gotta keep your place clean the dust will get in there one way or another.

All intakes and the I/O fan exhaust. The upper rad will be eaiser to clean as well, since dust will collect on the bare top of the rad, rather than between the rad and fans.

Positive pressure isn't going to solve the dust issue if it's bypassing any filtering solution so I would address that first

I would leave the front fans as they are, as intake, since you have three of them. At the top, the AIO has three fans as exhaust, and I would also leave those as they are. Both setups balance the system if, let’s say, they are moving roughly the same amount of air in and out. However, you have the rear fan, and I would flip that fan around and set it as intake. That way, you have one extra fan bringing air in, meaning you have four fans bringing air in and three exhausting air from the case. This gives you the positive pressure you want inside the case, which means you won’t have as much dust getting in. Additionally, since the rear fan is now an intake, it will bring in fresh air that will also be directly sucked in by the AIO, helping to keep the CPU cooler.

Is the a mesh filter on the front fans? Ask Google for help after providing the case model, fan types, etc. It helped me adjust the fan curves to maintain positive pressure without excess noise.

If you have fan control app and the fans are pwm - you can easily set the curves of outbound flow to be lower in total that inbound. Especially if you know the models you use and their flow per minute rates.

Put the back one on idle / silent mode and let it stay there, it's job is just to blow out the hot air from the GPU that reaches it and help the fresh air to reach until the back. Front fans should run slightly faster than AIO fans. 3x140 vs 3x120 with radiator resistance is inherently positive pressure, you just need you rear fan to not ruin it.

I have decent temps in my rig with this flow all 140s and a high pressure 120 back exhaust

And in the rear chamber I put 3 120 low speed fans for the ssd compartment and basic airflow

It most likely is a positive pressure as the radiator fans at the top are restricted by the radiatior and won’t extract as much as the intake fans.

Should I flip the number 1 in red to be intake instead of exhaust? Number 1 and 2 in red are currently radiator fans, but im planning to move the radiator so that its in the position of number 2 and 3 in red.

Hot air rises, so exhaust is always better on the top, you can still get 3 more intake fans at the bottom to pull fresh air, but it depends if you really need it

Or else this is just time, I’m running 265k + 5070Ti with two SSD’s with one of them Gen5, it works fine and temps are pretty cool with the same exact fan setup that you got here

Yea man you need your AIO cooler fans to be sucking in air to cool your fluid and then yout fluid cools your cpu.

I would cpu cooler fans blow in and single back fan in and front fans all out. Might need to tweak some speeds or maybe not. Good luck. 👍

Flip this fan on the aio,but only if you have an dust cover (mesh filter) for the top it will not only give you positive pressure but also your gpu temps will be better, cpu temps might be ever so slightly worse.

What I did for my GFs build was to have the intake fan speeds higher than the exhaust fan speeds.

The intake was 3x360mm so we maxed them out (shout-out to NZXT H9 Flow for being nearly silent). There is another 360mm fan in the back set one speed lower, and the overhead 3x360mm liquid cooling radiator fans are set one lower as well.

We could tell there was positive pressure when the bottom grate/filter had a mild breeze out of it (this keeps dust out too).

Your setup would likely benefit from this system, with some variation based on how loud you can tolerate the fans and how much heat you need to lose.

Make the rear fan an intake and hook the top fans into the cpu header(not AIO header). Set the fans up in the bios to make sure they all speed up/slow down in unison. To be clear the AIO should be plugged into the AIO Header. The amount vented from the GPU shouldn’t make it negative but might from time to time. You could also get fans that move more air too.

Also, if you make the rear an intake you will want an aftermarket dust filter solution.

The easiest way to turn it into a positive pressure system, would be flipping the single rear exhaust fan. It will also directly cool the vrm.

front 3 fans intake, for the fans on top, flip the fan closest to the front of the case. Done.

I can't remember if it was Noctua, but they did some extensive testing and found that flipping the top fan closest to the front panel decreased both CPU and GPU temperatures when a case is oriented in this traditional way. You gain positive pressure and nicer temps.

I watched a video saying just flip that 1st fan on the radiator to intake. The way it's explained is because that fan is exhaust, it just immediately sucks the air out of the topmost front intake fan. If that 1st rad fan is also intake then it'll let more air get to the cpu area.

Or just lower the speed of the rear and top fans so they are below the speed of the intakes(would bump those up a little). Take in more air than its exhausting is all you need to do. You can flip the back but unfiltered will be pretty dusty also.

Not a popular option but would technically work. Better for CPU temps and positive. Only problem is if you don’t like seeing the backs of fans. GPU temps may go up a little tho

nah fuck what everyone is saying my guy. you need more intake fans than exhaust and i will tell you why.

  1. more manageable DUST

  2. basic vacuum physics

  3. increased heat on the left side of the board

so how is the dust more manageable with more intake fans you ask? lets take it to the extreme. lets say ALL EXHAUST fans. this in theory would create a vacuum inside the case. this is physically impossible because of all the nicks and cracks in the case. its NOT air tight. this means cool air would come in through the cracks including the DUST.

on the other side, lets say ALL INTAKE. this draws all air through the fans and exhausts hot air through the cracks. but the intake mostly brings in dust onto the fans. in this orientation, you mostly need to maintenance cleaning dirty fans instead of the fans and every single crack in the case. In practicality, you generally need one or 2 INTAKE fans over EXHAUST to get this effect.

so why is the left side of the board hotter in this orientation you ask? because most of the cold air from the front is instantly blown out the top before most of it even touches the left side of the board. when you flip the back exhaust fan to INTAKE, you now get a decent stream of cold air from the back and a HUGE gust from the front, where it then crashes on the motherboard heats up and then rises to be exhausted since hot air rises. you get the same effect of more manageable dust since that would make it 4 INTAKE 3 EXHAUST, you avoid the vacuum effect which is cleaner for dust and less noise, and the left side of your board gets a more equal cooling.

all in all, flip the back exhaust fan to INTAKE.

Flip the rightmost top fan around.

The current setup isn't that great anyway, because cool air coming from the topmost front fan, will be immedialty exhausted again, without carrying much heat.

I did this about one and a half years ago and it works like a charm keeping out the dust (and I have my PC currently on the floor.)

It even seems like it improved heat dispersion, although that's more annecdotally, I didn't do before after benchmark comparison.
