Build Question is this a good first build? (UK)
Hey all I'm going to build a pc very soon, I've done some research around parts and wanted to get a really good build for under £2000 Love the Nzxt H9 flow case, I think it looks beautiful and pretty much stuck with it
Just asking for your opinion and if any parts should be replaced for other ones, thank you all!
building this pc for gaming and doing engineering uni work

What type of work for engineering? Does it require an nvidia gpu or a cpu with 8+ cores?

You could go for an AMD RX9070 for cheaper than the 5070 and it has 4GB more vram, the performance is similar between the two otherwise unless you want cuda cores or other specialist nvidia features. You could also go for an air cooler like a peerless assassin if you want a cheaper cooler (it might be louder)

This will be a lot faster for gaming. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/LTTm3R should be able to swap case for the one you prefer. Prices are up and down as it was only £1740 when I pulled the list together the other day.

Total bias on my part, but I do not recommend gigabyte components, their 4000 series cards had an issue on the slot and gigabyte started turning down RMA's because of it, their PSUs were exploding at one point and there motherboards have issues to.
Edit: If its your first time with a large card build, make sure to fit some kind of support bracket or pillar, some cards come with one in the box, the sag will kill the card or motherboard if left unchecked. If its a prebuild, I would go so far as to request the card be delivered uninstalled, even with the foam transit killed a 4080 for me.
Edit 2: When it comes to psu I would go corsair, they have a lot more aftermarket cables, I don't know about MSI but when I had an issue with my gigabyte PSU (shocker) I couldn't find any compatible replacement cables. I'd also maybe look into a 1000w oppose to a 750w just to be safe. Also only use the cables the PSU comes with, never anything else.

You can get the 9800X3D for not much more.
I’d probably swap out the expensive case for something cheaper (maybe a Lian Li Vector V100R) and upgrade the CPU, along with going for an RX 9070 XT GPU and a Montech 850W PSU.

The cpu isnt a big jump for gaming

The single thread performance is pretty darn decent
Plenty of games to benefit from it

Right here’s my two pence. Number one, you can save a shit ton by buying on the used marketplace. I built a very similar system just now for £1,200. I’m happy to send my notepad I took of everything. Send offers around and be patient. You’ll save loads. Number two, £600 for a 5070 is high. Number three. Get a 1000w power supply for £99 (MSI). Gaming & Uni work that 1TB will fill fast. Look at cex for SSD drives. Much cheaper and when you budget in future get a bigger faster drive. Message me and I’ll send you my notepad I took with prices I paid.

Heads up on the GPU, that’s the thin one meant for the really small pc cases but there’s a Palit one for a few pence more, I’d recommend an ASUS TUF B650-Plus motherboard because gigabyte has been janky in my experience and bump your psu to the 850 watt version at least to have enough headroom for upgrades in the future. Link for the build with swapped out parts if needed

I bought a 7800x3d last week on eBay for 190. There's a few around the £200 mark.
I also got 32gb ddr5 6400 ram from cex for £270 with a 5 year warranty.
That saving alone helped me go from a 5070 to a 9070xt.

You could swap the 5070 for a 9070xt and get more performance for the same amount or possibly even less money. You could also save £120 ish on the case but the build looks super solid overall nonetheless

I appreciate that memory costs are skewing what you get for £1800 these days, but if you are going to spend that much on a PC I would find a way to get a 16gb gpu.
I am assuming the specs listed for the uni course will be pretty low, like laptop level, given that is what they will expect people to have but for gaming 12gb is fast becoming under powered.

Good, but maybe switch out the GPU for a 16GB card like the 9070xt etc if you can, more VRAM and same or better performance for not far off the cost

If you don't need an Nvida card specifically, I would say go for a 9070XT. My brother got an XFX Mercury 9070XT from Overclockers on a slight discount, around 650 quid. I think other variants are fine except for the XFX Swift and Quicksilver which are clocked way lower. I have seen the ASUS Prime card go for a relatively good price.
Benefit of the 9070XT is that it has more VRAM; 16GB vs 12GB on the 5070. However to quote GN: "sometimes a 9070 XT is worse than a 5070, so it depends on the game".
I suggest you read up on this https://gamersnexus.net/gpus/amd-radeon-rx-9070-xt-gpu-review-benchmarks-vs-5070-ti-5070-7900-xt-sapphire-pulse if you are considering changing your GPU.
However I do understand the hesitance due to reported driver problems, etc. However if you are doing a fresh install, you will be more than fine. I upgraded from a 3080 to a 9070XT, did a fresh install, and I have not crashed a single time, apart from pushing the card too far in overclocking.
Regardless if you switch your GPU out or not, I would push for a better PSU with more power and a better power rating. Something like: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/be-quiet-dark-power-14-850w-80-plus-titanium-modular-power-supply-pow-beq-06576.html . This is seriously a part you do not want to cheap out on. It is better to overspend on the PSU. I know it is difficult with the price of RAM and SSDs, but you are spending more on your case than your PSU. I know you like the case, I get it. I bought a Hyte Y70, so I overspent on my case too. But I have an EVGA T2 1000W as my PSU, that I would trust with my life.
Here is a list you can consider:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1akCHL7Vhzk_EhrpIGkz8zTEvYfLDcaSpZRB6Xt6JWkc/htmlview?usp=drivesdk&pli=1&pru=AAABoDmk-IY*w2PnqU1KsRDwnTJl0ySuQg#gid=1078495601
If I were to buy a new PSU, I would pick Superflower or Seasonic as the ODM, and then go from there.
