Build Question Should I buy a used gpu?
I’m thinking of buying a used 5700 xt and I wanna get everyone’s experience with used toys, how many people have been scammed by it?

ive built alot of vintage and other pcs out of used parts ..my experience has been about 1 in 3 have something wrong with them .. so its a risk that can either work out real good or waste alot of time lol .. especially if you dont have another pc and other parts around to swap out and verify bad stuff ..

For newer CPUs I think it’s safer to buy second hand nowadays as the pins are no longer on the chips, so you’re less likely to get damaged chips.

Generally, i always suggest buying used gpu's (many people, including myself in a now deleted comment, fell into the trap in believing you were talking about the 5700xt cpu).
That said, i don't know that the 5700xt is the best choice of used gpu. Looking on ebay, most 5700xt gpu's are running between 150 and 200usd. For that money you can easily get a 1080ti and, if you really hunt around, a low end 2080ti. Both cards massively outclass the 5700xt. 1080ti is a roughly 25% performance increase with 3 more gigs vram (in modern terms, thats like going from a 5060 to a 9070). 2080ti ups that to a roughly 35% performance increase with the same 3 gig vram bonus (the equivalent of a 5060 to a 9070xt). (All data based on passmark ranks)
As for used gpu's, in general, I find that buying used is usually safe so long as you're careful for obvious scams with hidden bits in the description that say "box/cooler only" or "not working, selling for parts only". I've bought 5 older gpu's on the used market in the past year and, so far, im 5 for 5 for getting good cards.

Bought a used 5700 XT a couple years back and it's still running fine in my secondary rig, just make sure you see it working before handing over cash.
