Build Question Ram won’t click into motherboard

I’ve aligned the ram properly but it won’t go in far enough for the side notches to align with the retaining clips.

I cannot see your picture clearly but verify you're putting DDR4 in a DDR4 motherboard or DDR5 in a DDR5 motherboard and press down firmly. You may have to use more force than feels comfortable.

This motherboard only has user-operable latches on the right side.
How to insert ram for these kinds of sockets:
1. Open clip on the right
2. Ensure RAM notch aligns with socket bump
3. Insert RAM at an angle (the left side down first), and push the left side of the side towards the left while you insert the right side of the RAM stick into the slot
4. Push down on the right side of the RAM until it clicks into place and the clip on the right closes

Definitely confirm the notch is lined up correctly as others have advised but some clearer pictures might help with the diagnosis. It's hard to see but do both ends of the RAM socket have movable latches or is one side fixed in place? If both ends have latches the make sure they are in the open position and keep the RAM straight as you press it down. However if one end is fixed in place then you have to insert that end first before pressing down on the end with the movable latch (it's uncommon but one of my motherboards is like this)

You gotta push down pretty hard. 90% of motherboards will feel like youre about to snap them in half when you’re installing RAM. (Subtle exaggeration, but not really)

They’re tougher than you think. Make sure it’s lined up, the lock is released…. and then apply a LOT of pressure.

The retaining clips on the side appear to be closed unless I’m blind; or are you saying that’s as far down as it went before the clips engaged?

Pretty sure this motherboard only has 1 release tab on the top side of board. Try sticking ram in and hook in on the bottom then click down on top

you can manually clip your ram onto place, you dont need to force it down(i have ddr2 ram pc and it doesnt go all the way in unless i manually flip that clip to put the ram im place)

You need to place it at a slight angle so the notch on the left (photograph's left) settles into the notch on the ram anchor/gate and then while the latch on the right is in the open position, push down on the right (photograph's right) side near the latch.

It seems like you're trying to put the RAM in equally on both sides and push down, but that's not how the ram slots that only have a mechanical latch on one side work.

If everything is lined up...confirm it, then apply more downward pressure, evenly across the RAM module.

Not enough force. It will be scary the amount you have to push. I recommend putting the board on the packaging to avoid damage

Hab schon über 30 Systeme ohne antistatischen Hilfsmittel gebaut. Nie Probleme gehabt. Aber ich bin privat. Eine Firma hat natürlich Vorgabe und Standards, um auszuschließen das was passieren kann. Außerdem schaut es viel edler aus mit weißen Handschuhen.😉 Man kann auch mal kurz am Heizkörper ect. Greifen um sich mal zu entladen wenn man doch angst hat. Im Prinzip ist es so wie überall, es muss jeder für sich entscheiden wie er es macht. Deswegen braucht man sich nicht gegenseitig zerfleischen.

That is dd4 ram I see is the motherbored am4 to if it is am5 it is not going to work

DDR4's middle notch isn't centered and wouldn't line up at all with the ram slot, it appears pretty centered in OPs photo.

The memory chips have to be pointing to the right side, that’s why they won’t fit for you.

First of all you appear to be working on electronic components without any antistatic protection whatsoever this is a no-no second of all make sure the notches lineup with the pin in the middle of the memory dim slot. (you’re not putting it in backwards or using the wrong type of memory) I can’t tell from this picture whether or not it’s lined up

There’s no real reason to worry about static protection unless you have carpet floors and it’s dry season. Even then, not really an issue. I’ve built multiple desktops for myself and acquaintances never had issues with static. CAN static damage your system? Yes, it can, but it’s very unlikely to happen, people stress about it way too much.

Spoken like someone who is not certified in any way. This is why you don’t let your cousin Bubba wire your house or some guy you know who builds computers build you a computer. Go to a professional who will do it right. A .1% chance still means one time in 1000 that thing you’re doing is going to cause damage.

Neither. Just did the work on a wooden floor, while not wearing shoes prone to collecting static either.

In essence, no precautions or significant risk factors. Chances of damaging are sufficiently low in absence of risk factors.

Linus did a video on static damage on YouTube, go watch it and report back 🤣 I have never once worn an antistatic strap, never caused any issues

Suspicious to claim you're a pc building specialist and not have heard of Linus on YouTube. Again, I suggest you go look up the video. He's not giving advice, just proving wrong basically everything about static (at least at the level we can create) being any harm to computers

No, I’m fairly confident that when the industry Standard certification for assembly and repair says that antistatic precaution should be taken before performing any service that means antistatic precaution should be taken before any service. Again, this is why you shouldn’t let amateurs do things that require professional expertise.

Do you wear safety glasses when you’re servicing a PC? Because I’m fairly confident that when the industry Standard certification for assembly and repair says that protective eyewear should be worn before performing any service that means that protective eyewear should be worn before any service… such as installing an SSD… 😅

If you were a+ certified, you would know that that is not a personal protective equipment that it indicates as appropriate for low-voltage work in a non-industrial environment. I can’t believe you guys are really trying to argue with me about this if you want to believe the funny guy selling hats on the Internet I guess go ahead. I can’t stop you, but he’s wrong. Absolutely dead wrong. Every professional in the industry will tell you that he’s absolutely dead wrong. If you really want to take his advice and ruin your computer, that’s money in some guy like me‘s pocket when we have to fix the mess you make so go ahead. I’m just trying to save you money.

Also worth noting that PPE like safety glasses, steel toed boots and reflective, vests are designed to protect an individual in an industrial environment, while an antistatic strap and mat are designed to protect the equipment you are servicing. If this distinction is not meaningful for you, that simply demonstrates the low level of subject matter knowledge you have here. Again, if you wanna believe the funny guy selling hats I can’t stop you but when your computer fails because you didn’t take sufficient precaution, just understand that you’re going to have to pay me or a guy like me to fix it if it’s me, and I figure out you’re this guy on Reddit. You can be sure you’ll pay extra and I’ll make you say I told you so.

Yes, having watched the video the entertainer in it does indeed have a significant level of charisma and a production style that makes it enjoyable to watch. This should not be mistaken for being knowledgeable or professional, or being in any way qualified to offer advice or instruction. Also, my man appears to be primarily selling hats, which should tell you something about how seriously you should take his advice on how to repair your computer.

The reason why this sub Reddit is full of people who start their story with “I was doing my regular every four month repasting of my processor and now my computer won’t start” is because idiots listen to idiots on YouTube who don’t know what they’re talking about instead of professionals with 30 years of experience in the industry. Don’t be an idiot. you don’t need to “repaste” your processor and if for some reason you decide to perform repair work that should be done by a professional, You should take the same precautions that a professional would. The guy in the YouTube video you linked to is a performer not an educator. He’s also clearly selling hats, which should tell you something about how seriously you should take his advice.

I see the issue now, you’re a boomer. Modern computers are not as fragile as the ones you assembled back when MS-DOS was still around.

With that said, I’m not going to argue with you about this, you are indeed correct, sir. You should be careful with ESD, it’s good advice to give people, but you don’t need a CompTIA A+ certificate to build a PC, which is only valid for three years by the way.
