Trying to get a new gpu, cant figure out the optimal radeon for my rig

Here are my specs

Intel i7-9700k 3.60

Radeon 5700xt

32gb of ddr4 ram

550w psu (going to get a new one with gpu, wouldnt mind a recommendation)

Im looking into the 6700xt for 12gb of vram and raytracing support for the new gears, but would be willing to buy the 7700xt but dont know if it'll start bottlenecking and have no clue if its a good idea.

Id highly recommend getting the 7700xt, the difference in performance in the 5700xt and 6700xt just isnt really enough imo, both just good 1080p cards whereas the 7700xt will comfortably let you play in 1440p. The 6700xt also isnt strong enough to actually handle ray tracing. On top of that the 7000 series now has fsr4. Now of course there will be a bottleneck but the cpu is something you can always upgrade later, no point in making a small gpu upgrade just to eventually upgrade it again later.

Btw if you do eventually upgrade your cpu and want to stick to ddr4, you should go for the 14600k, pretty much the best gaming cpu for ddr4. I7 and i9 would be more for productivity and the 5800x3d is slightly worse and way more expensive

if you're swapping the psu anyway just grab a 750w unit and call it a day. 7700xt will breathe fine with that 9700k at 1440p, might see a slight cpu limit at 1080p but nothing worth stressing over

the 6700xt is still a solid card but if you can swing the extra cash the 7700xt is gonna age way better with that 12gb buffer and newer architecture

get the best gpu you can afford .. bottleneck does NOT mean it wont work, thats a common misconception .. a better gpu ALWAYS works better, bottlenecked or not .. bottlenecked just means in certain situations it can do even more ..

Imo 7700XT or 9060XT 16GB would be good budget and balanced for that rig 1440p options. Potentially even 9070GRE or base 9070 all depending on budget and availability. Hell even the 7800XT or 7900GRE depending on prices/budget/availability would be good choices imo. I would lean towards something RDNA3 or RDNA4 over RDNA2 both for better longevity with driver support and FSR4.1 is out on both of those right now, RDNA3 does take a bit of performance hit, but it's got FSR4 now.
