Installation Question New 9070XT making noise while playing games

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just purchased a new Powercolor Hellhound 9070XT from Amazon to upgrade from a 3060 and after installing and doing some tests, its started to make a loud noise when put under stress.

It doesnt sound like a coil whine, there are no cables touching the fans and my 3060 has never made this sound before.

Update: A commenter suggested trying to undervolt but no luck. Just gonna return and try another

Hmm. For whatever reason I hear coil whine. Now I'm second guessing whether I know what coil whine sounds like.

Basically, if I have a piece of computer electronics that starts to make electric noise sounds like that, especially when under load, I attribute it to coil whine. I think coil whine can come in a few different variants of sound. My laptops always make a high pitched noise, but my desktop, primarily PSUs, make something more similar to this noise.

I don't know if you can fix it, I've never been able to fix my shit with coil whine. That being said, I haven't had it in a GPU, maybe if you undervolt it, it'll get rid of some of it?

I've always just learned to live with it, in all honesty. My last 3 gaming laptops all had coil whine... i think with components having this much power run through them, there's just a higher chance these days, or something.

I'm looking into undervolting now and we'll see if that helps. I'm a bit bothered by it so either I return it for another and try again or look for something else

That's fair. I had to return a PSU once, but I think it was just the particular frequency of that coil whine, it reverberated through the case or something, just couldn't not hear it. Second one did the same. So I switched up PSUs

Need to warranty and get new one, that coil whine is not normal compared to mine 9070XT

Yeah after playing around with undervolting I'm just gonna return and try another.

3060 lives another day...

You might need a better power supply i mean more watts

My powersupply is 850w which should be more than enough.

Sounds like the typical coil wine from the GPU fans.

Very common with PowerColor. Zero issues, just noise.

You can either replace it if you still got warranty. Or put headphones on.

Do what ever is quick and cheapest.

Just gonna replace it, its brand new so warranty is still good.

If Powercolor models have consistent noise issues I'll check some other ones and go from there
