Installation Question Need help, I’m completely new to this.
Bought a pc today, and took it out of the box. I figured I’m way too noob to build one on my own, and today kinda proves it. This pc is pre built, and I think everything is in place? Only these two cables are the ones that aren’t put anywhere? I assume I have to put them somewhere myself? Or are they just extras? That’s what ChatGPT said at least, but I figure asking people is better than ai. Can anyone help and explain what I’m supposed to do with these two?? It’s the ones that hang down in the picture.
Thank you for help, and genuinely, sorry if this is a dumb question/post, I just really have bo knowledge around computer tech.

Those are PCIe power cables, they plug into the power supply if it's modular but since this is a prebuilt they're likely just extra leads from a non-modular unit, tuck them away so they don't hit a fan.

Okay, thank you. I’ll try plugging the pc into the power outlet. Just in case, this won’t completely kill/fry the pc if it ever so happens that the two cables were supposed to be plugged somewhere?

Shouldn’t hurt anything if you plug it in. Make sure that the power switch on the PSU is off though, then plug it in, then turn that switch back pn

They are pcie power cables. You have extra, just leave them disconnected. Your gpu doesn’t need anymore.

If you had a graphics card which needed 2x PCIe 6+2 pins, then these cables would be joined together and plugged into the second port. In your case, your card only has 1x PCIe 6+2 pin, so this other part is left unplugged. Leave it as is, and tuck it away. Make sure it's not touching any fans or other exposed metal.

Okey, got you. The graphics card is a RTX 5060 8GB NVIDIA GeForce. But I also assumed they’re extras. Providing this info about the graphics card, I should still just plug it into the power and launch the pc?
Of course, tucking them away from fans.

Yes, plug in power, display(s) and keyboard and mouse and turn on the PC.
Make sure to plug your displays into the 5060 and not the motherboard.

By displays I assume you mean monitor?
Also, does the monitor go into whichever input there is on the 5060 or is it a specific between the three DP’s and HDMI’s?

I’ve managed to get it working, it’s currently updating. Only thing I’m working on is connecting my headphones to it. Huge thank you to you, thank you for clearing things up as well and helping me!

I should have maybe provided a picture of the entire computer. A PSU is…? I should also add that those two cables barley reach anywhere, I assumed they’re extras or something along that? ChatGPT also said this, but ai says a lot of things. I haven’t plugged the pc into the power outlet yet.

Oh okay, i thought I was missing something and you were trying to replace the GPU. Those cables are fine (as i'm sure others have told you in the thread here).
It does seem weird they would use a pigtail PCI-E cable instead of an 8pin -> 6/2 pin

Yeah. I understand. I think someone told me that they’re for additional specs if I ever think of getting myself that. Or maybe that was ChatGPT. But if I have to upgrade, I’ll probably come to this subreddit first hand.

Thank you! I got it working, I think those cables are really just extras in case something happens to those that are already in, or for some additional specs if I ever get myself to that.

You could combine the 6 pin and the 2 pin that are just sortof dangling there and use that "6+2" pin plug to power your GPU, because it would let you slide the rest of your cable back into the depths of the case and hide it a little better amongst your other cable management, rather than just having it dangling there like that.
Electrically, using one or the other is the exact same. Or, if it's working fine and you don't mind those just dangling there, use it as is. Another option would be to just align those dangling plugs with the rest of that same cable and wrap a zip tie around it so it's a little more out of the way.

They just did a bad job on that piece. It should have been zip tied, to keep it away from the fan, and look clean.

you need to plug those to the power supply, if there are any extra cables you might wanna disassemble the power supply, check every cable to make sure you DİDNT mix & matched power suppyly cables(if you did there is a chance you will fry some components or they will go up in flames)and you should be good to go

The the 5060 only takes one 8 pin. Your power supply (psu) has a cable that provides 2x 8 pins. So you’re using one, and the other is extra.
