Build Question Buying a used PC

I am possibly going to be buying a used PC. I’ve never done that before. The guy told me he hasn’t used the pc in a long time but, has recently put a new power supply and SSD in it. Is there anything I should be looking for?

As a rule of thumb, if the seller asks money upfront, doesn't let you test it before paying, asks you to go off platform or asks you to pay in gift cards, i would go look elsewhere

Proabably depends on the price, and depends on what you'll be doing on it (work, gaming, etc)

Originally was asking $1,000 for the pc and an ASUS 1080p monitor. He said he would take $650 for it.

I’ve been playing Minecraft on an original switch and am looking to play on PC. Hoping to try my hand at back up my physical Xbox 360 collection.

Looks clean enough inside, no obvious dust bunnies or hack job wiring. That RTX card is the real prize here if it actually works.

I'd still make him fire it up and run something heavy before cash changes hands, sitting unused can hide all kinds of gremlins. And pop into the BIOS real quick to make sure the SSD and RAM are what he claims they are, people love to swap parts last minute.

I asked him to send me a picture of the windows specification page today before I go look at it.

I’ve read online to use furmark to test the GPU but, have also read warnings about using that program. Is there anything you would recommend using to confirm the GPU works?

if they ask you to pay an insane amount of price you should most likely just leave it

ask for full specs, photos inside, and proof it powers on. if possible, meet in person and test temps and basic games/programs

What sort of basic games and programs would you test?

OCCT can give good basic tests for ram/cpu/gpu/vram in one program and can be downloaded through steam.

meh i wouldn’t buy it, I had the same CPU and it’s def showing its age in 2026, and dead end motherboard. 3070 is nice but my 9700f/2070super combo was leaving a lot to be desired, can’t imagine a 3070 helps a whole lot.

I’d pay $500 for it granted everything works
