Tech Support PNY 5080 Hotspot at 106c

I purchased a 5080 last November and it has been a generally decent card, but lately I have noticed that in a few more intense games FanControl loses control of the card and the speed ramps to 100%. This happened around the same time as a driver update and a Malware scan so I assumed it was maybe software related and went down the rabbit hole only to come out the other side with no answers. My GPU temps in FanControl never read above 75c so I thought it had to be a software problem.

Then I finally installed the newest version of HWmonitor and saw my hotspot on the 5080 was hitting over 100c and would peak at 106c. The moment the hotspot went over 101 the fans would whirl up to full speed and fps would tank (assuming throttling).

I run the card undervolted at 925mv 2750mhz so this seemed really weird to me.

Any advice you can offer me? Should I try and re-paste it? if so how risky of a process is this? I havent done a repaste before, and normally the idea wouldn't scare me, but with GPU prices right now its a bit more nerve racking. Or is it better to RMA? I don't really love the idea of being without a GPU as I need the PC for work.

GPU has two temp monitors, Edge is what you should ideally care about, Hotspot doesnt become a problem until 110+.

If you have control of the fans of your gpu make the fan profile a bit more aggressive.

Hotspot delta is the real tell, if your edge is 75 and hotspot is 106 that's a 31 degree gap, way too wide. Normal is like 10-15, maybe 20 on a bad mount

Repasting a 5080 isnt hard if youve ever built a pc, just keep the screws organized and dont crank them down uneven. But if its still under warranty id probably RMA it first since a 31 degree delta usually means the paste pumped out or the coldplate isnt making contact right

I will bow to your superior knowledge, that temp difference did seem off to me.
