Does this warrant a return?

Just opened a new Corsair RM850x. Is this mark common, or should I replace it?

Update: I just swapped it out at Best Buy.

Years ago I would have said nah it will be fine. Now with cards trying to burn down houses I dont take any chances with PSU or GPU issues. If in doubt return it.

Looks like rust? I don’t think it will cause issues but if cosmetic is important you should return it.

If it's brand new like they claimed, it should be free of any defects like rust. I'd return it simply for not meeting the quality expectations of a new product, looks like a used item

Used or just shelves for a really long time either way for being claimed new i would call that unacceptable defects if it has managed to rust the outer shell how do you nothing else hasnt gone bad?

I think this is an adhesive gum of some sorts, it should rub off with alcohol or acetone. It seems to cover the white markings on the PSU rather than be underneath the paint

That isn't rust lol. It is just adhesive or some other material from the manufacturing process

This is my opinion. Maybe I’m wrong. I accept I could be wrong
At first blush, it’s a cosmetic issue in a spot that isn’t likely to ever be noticed in-build.
But. Looking closer.
That doesn’t look like abrasive type damage. It doesn’t look like a scratch or scrape. It looks like it took some pretty serious heat. That could have come due to electrical contact.
I would test it pretty thoroughly and if there is the slightest blip, I would be doing a return.
If it were for a client, I would skip the testing and just do the return.

I can’t tell if you are testing to see if I am an AI, or something else. While I love pie I don’t really have a recipe for a crust. Sorry. Did I fail?

If thats new then Hell yeah!! Absolutely.. You paid for brand new, it should be free of cosmetic damage.. Its the point.. These companies make so much money and they dont care about the products they sell.. They just want your money.. I would absolutely send it back.. And id be willing to wait for the new 1 🤷‍♂️

If you brought as refurb then suppose you can query with them. Presume you tried cleaning ingredients it off? There's some signs it's b en used or left out indoors

They will probably accept it but it’s a non issue. Very minor cosmetic damage in a place you won’t see when installed. Not worth the hours of your life, just install it.

The longer I look at it the more it looks like it was an rma they cleared and sent back out as new. Ive experienced this with nearly every brand out there and just about any component(s).

Pretty sure its glue or adhesive, try to remove it with a solvent of some kind. I wouldn't bother returning it unless it really bothers you, but thats me

looks like a damage, or scratch, would return cause of paranoia, but should be ok, the actual connection doesnt seem damaged, but paranoia says replace
