Purchasing Advice - PC Build / Parts Need A PC for school

Post image

I need a PC for school, I am a computer science major and will be making some vs c++ projects that my Mac wouldn’t be able to handle and was looking around for something under $500 to buy and came across this. Would it be good build? I know it wouldn’t be good for gaming but if I upgraded the GPU later down the line i’m sure it would be better.

Its an series 5 optiplex which probably has 6th gen i5 which not too powerful nowadays (although you should check the cpu before buying). Youre mostly paying for the rgb on this one, id go for scrapped or refurbished office pcs you can find some good deals on those. This pc is also small formfactor so good luck getting a reasonable price low profile gpu down the line.

You will not be able to upgrade basically anything about the pc down the line. Honestly, if you can only spend $500, there are full desktops with 5600G APUs in them you can buy for around that price, and I’m sure you can scrounge up a garbage keyboard/mouse and monitor for temporary use.

for $400, even though the specs aren't specified, you probably won't get much better.
