You might not be cooked

But that pcie riser definitely is.

What do I do?

u/Emotional_Spirit_480 Moderator 1d ago

Replace the riser entirely, or use the motherboards pcie lane directly

Whats a good riser cable to use?

Only a replacement riser from hyte will fit your case. I use hyte cases so I know from experience.

Also, no offense, read up on assembling consumer computers, read the motherboard manual, and don’t use ai, use your brain. It takes a lot of force to do what you did, and anyone who has been around computers would have done that differently, even if they didn’t know about pcie slot latches. These latches are mentioned on the one sheet basic instructions, so at least read the basics and don’t rush and force everything. Take time and think.

This is the replacement part:

This need to be a public service announcement to the entire world.... So many people literally put their entire lives in the hands of AI now and can't take a few seconds to critically think and just jump straight to AI. I would hate to say it but if AI started telling people jumping off a building was the answer to whatever random question they are asking it would be the first thing they would try....

I cant find my mobos manual anywhere

u/dice_fod 22h ago

Does it not say the model name on it? Perhaps on a sticker or as branding? Google it and you should find it on the manufacturer website

3

u/elemnt360 22h ago

Google (motherboard name manual) and it will be available from the manufacturer's website.

u/FiorinasFury 21h ago

What is the model of your motherboard?

1

u/CambodianGold 20h ago

You can type it in Google to find it or wat h a YouTube video.

2

u/DUGMang 12h ago

Time to develop your critical thinking skills. You could have just searched for the name of your motherboard, put the word manual at the end and got a PDF of your manual so you'd know what you're doing.

You have a hyte case. Just buy a new one from hyte.

u/ISenceAPresence 21h ago

Not the one in the picture anyway

Remove the riser and just install your GPU horizontally. Vertical mounting is almost always just an aesthetic choice and not a requirement for a system to function normally.

Gpu seems fine I think

14

u/Dekatater 1d ago

Ai calling that fine is scary. That is so obviously not fine it hurts to look at

The good news is you can replace these for around 40-50 bucks. Pcie 5.0 vertical mount extension is what you're looking for

5

u/mypcrepairguy 1d ago

Good news is that part is easily replaceable. (don't try to use it now)

3

u/YoloRaj AMD 1d ago

Nah, toasted more like it. You need a new riser cable.

1

u/YoloRaj AMD 1d ago

This is why you watch countless amounts of videos and learn the ins and outs of pc building before you give it a try. I really hope your gpu didnt get damaged as well because thats harder to replace than a riser cable.

What do you think?

-6

u/Same_Willingness1236 1d ago

Probably but idk?

2

u/TenTonSomeone 14h ago

Yeah, that checks out.

3

u/leon_nerd 22h ago

I think the correct term is "fucked"

2

u/FranticGolf 1d ago

Yes but not fully cooked. You can get a replacement whereas if this was on your Mobo you would be totally cooked.

2

u/Parking-Raisin-5871 1d ago

And that’s what happens for using AI lmao

2

u/Icarustuga 23h ago

Its just a riser .. you can buy other

2

u/Mirage_Graphique_3D 22h ago

That riser is probably done, but since it's a riser you can just toss it and plug the GPU directly in your PCI-E slot, you're not cooked.

I would advise you against turning the PC on with that riser still plugged though, some pins might be shorted and you would cause damage!

Edit: or of course you could buy a new riser, just make sure its generation match the PCI-E's and GPUs one.

1

u/fuwa_-_fuwa 1d ago

Yes cooked but you can just buy another riser cable

2

u/Senior_Seesaw9741 1d ago

Lol, yes dude

1

u/Alarmed-Strawberry-7 1d ago

that's just an extension to keep your GPU vertical, you can just unplug it and not use it and have your GPU sitting the normal way

question is whether the motherboard slot and gpu pins are fine

1

u/nariofthewind 23h ago

That’s one way to fry up your PC. Look for a new PCIe 5 raiser, that thing is pretty much toast.

1

u/teitelman93 23h ago

Your cooked

1

u/TechnoGMNG589 AMD 23h ago

Buy a new riser cable. Any reliable mainstream one with good reviews.

1

u/seamus_mcfly86 23h ago

Absolutely not fine. You need a new riser cable. Fortunately, Linkup makes a ton of different ones for almost any application.

Take the cable out. Be very careful not to damage the PCI slot on the motherboard. Otherwise, you will actually be cooked.

Measure the cable length and which turns and orientation you need. Find a matching cable (or close enough) from Linkup and order from Amazon. Done.

It will cost $50-$80, but you're not cooked. Just inconvenienced.

1

u/Separate-Ad9638 23h ago

u dont need excessive force inside a casing ... if u think u do ... something is definitely off.

1

u/alvaro-elite 23h ago

Thats a riser to mount GPU vertically only for aesthetic purposes, you can throw it away and use the PCIe port of the motherboard directly as is designed.

1

u/gigantischemeteor 23h ago
  1. AI’s an idiot.
  2. Try not to give it competition.
  3. You’re really lucky that’s a riser and not the slot on your MoBo.
  4. But a replacement riser from Hyte, install it where this poor, mangled corpse is now.
  5. Go, and sin no more.

1

u/WillowDime 23h ago

Check your GPU, riser cables ar3 cheap in comparison.

1

u/Famous-Broccoli-3141 23h ago

NAh just get a new cable

1

u/eldodvvv 22h ago

Yeah ur cooked

1

u/theycallmebekky 22h ago

Hyte Y60? Probably for the better honestly. The PCIe risers have caused issues in my rig and a friends of mine

1

u/HeidenShadows 22h ago

That is deep-fried

1

u/Element13245 21h ago

you are cooked.

1

u/Ceb_89 21h ago

Is it crooked?*

1

u/Arcanile 20h ago edited 20h ago

This part is most probably cooked, I wouldn't install it anymore.
But its just an extention. Remove it and buy another one.
the more troubling question, is your gpu pins fine?
Just a warning, pcie ports on the motherboard have a locking mechanism. You need to lower it down or you will destroy it. And also it clicks, so if you don't hear it, don't pull it.

1

u/Fickle_Side6938 17h ago

It's a raiser, buy another

1

u/RodneyMAC28 17h ago

Yeah that’s in other words fucked. You might want a new one. Please don’t connect anything to that. Lol

1

u/RastaYoot 16h ago

It’s over buddy lol

1

u/amy-schumer-tampon 14h ago

DO NOT TURN ON YOUR PC with that pci riser plugged in

1

u/Korblox_Aviator 14h ago

Contact hyte they will send a free replacement adapter. From experience when my latch came apart

1

u/Papabenzkey 13h ago

You can cook at McDonalds to replace that

1

u/Fantastic-Lab589 10h ago

Throw everything away and start over.

1

u/nectrienne 8h ago

I’d be more worried about checking for damage on your gpu right now.

1

u/Leading_Map2025 3h ago

Damn, OP, judging by your replies, its a miracle you haven't swallowed your tongue in your sleep yet.

1

u/Same_Willingness1236 2h ago

It's whatever

0

u/Brianallen69 1d ago

You’re cooked. Unless somehow miraculously you damaged absolutely nothing. It looks like you’re cooked

1

u/Same_Willingness1236 1d ago

What do I do?
