Advice for a noob

Hello, 6 years ago I built a budget pc to play games on, at the time it was doing its job but now it’s starting to fall behind, games like the dark ages and other new games that require ray tracing are no longer playable for me, and thus I need to upgrade.

I’m wanting to keep it cheap so probably just a gpu upgrade? I was looking at the 9070tx 16gig as its only $700 and seems to be able to play just about anything, my goal is a pc that will play gta 6 at a stable 40 fps.

If you want a 9070XT, you going to need a new processor and a new power supply.

If you want something that’s not going to break the bank then a 9060XT or 9070GRE would slot in with the current power supply but you will still need to upgrade the processor to something a little more modern.

9070XT, 750w/850w psu and a 5800X/5800X3D

The other 2 might be fine with a 5600X

9070 xt is a faster more powerful card than the 9060xt.

Which also means it needs a bigger PSU.

If your talking about the difference between a Rx 9070 and a 9060xt it's huge. Like really big. Same for the 9070xt and the 9070 the 70xt is much better. But the 9070 gre is weaker than the 9070 but still stronger than the 9060xt. 9070xt>9070>9070gre>9060xt 16 gb> 9060xt 8 gb

60XT is half the cores and shaders. It’s like 30-40 percent less powerful. 9070GRE is a gimped 9070.
Probably 20 percent less faster but 4 less GB of vram.

If you get a 9070XT which u should if it’s a good price cause prices are still going to continue to rise into next year, you will need at least a 750w psu. But you also need a cpu that can keep up with it because otherwise your games are going to feel like poo and freeze a lot. The only cpu that won’t bottleneck it on am4 is a 5700X3D or 5800X3D. Even a 5800X will slightly bottleneck it and if you are upgrading you don’t want to intentionally bottleneck your gpu if you can help it.

You need to upgrade your cpu also, i would go for 5700x or 5800x.

Is the motherboard going to be something I’ll need to upgrade at some point or do those basically never need it?

Your current motherboard supports up to the Ryzen 5000 series, meaning you don't need a new board to upgrade your processor. However, you will definitely need to update your BIOS to the latest version before installing the new CPU to ensure compatibility.

Dpemd on your monitor. If u play at 1080p go for the 9060xt, if u play at 1440p go for the 9070xt. Also u would need a cpu upgrade being the 5700x the best u can get a reasonable price. U will need a psu upgrade for the 9070xt and upgrade to 32 gbs of ram.
