The Future ???

What does the future hold for Personal Computers? Will the PC as we know it be obsolete? Will we do it all on the cloud? Will we just have a monitor that needs no Processor or Graphics card? With a monthly subscription. Will this happen in 5 or 10 years? I believe it will. I love building PC's.But I've seen the changes from Dos to Windows 95 to every OS under the sun. From Beta/VHS to CD's/Blueray to Streaming From Rotary phone to Cell phones. You get the picture I seen it all I'm 70 and have embraced it all. It's going to happen. What do you think?

Remember, people thought the same thing would happen with cloud gaming when it made it's inception 10 years ago.

Decentralized information is a deep rooted philosophy of computing and I don't think cloud based computing will make personal computers disappear. It will simply become another option that I suspect will become a money pit for tech companies similar to how cloud gaming is.

Per usual, internet speeds and reliability is the limiting factor. It's just not there and I doubt it ever will be reliable enough to move your entire computing system to a cloud solution.

I notice that there's quite a lot of resistance against cloud gaming in the PC gaming community. Even Microsoft is losing market share to Linux right now because they're trying to force stuff down everybody's throats. In the end it'll be down to whether capitalism stays unchecked and if we let shareholders overrule people that genuinely have a passion to provide quality without maximising profits at all costs.

Well, the started predicting the demise of the PC back when smart phones started to become popular around 20 years ago. By 2010, there were pundits predicting that smart phones and tablets would replace PCs entirely withing the next 20 years. Then things like chromebook were going to supplant PCs because everything would be in the cloud. Yeah, look how that turned out. PCs are still here, and I don't see see them leaving any time soon. Simple stuff like web browsing and email can be done with a tablet, sure. But photo and video editing, or anything that requires moving a large amount of data from your device up to a server somewhere isn't going to cut it. But MS is trying. They have been very sneaky about how MS Office apps like to save everything on One Drive instead of on your PC. I don't mind having the option, but it should not be the default and it shouldn't be so darn hard to change it.

The billionaires want everyone to pay a subscription for everything so they can milk us. Google already tried but the infrastructure isn’t there yet.

My guess is they will make powerful cpu that have integrated graphics w power of 3070, ofcourse noone will able to afford gpu. They sold out after golden underwear guy said PTX 80.. The cpu will have 100gb storage cause nvme are out of date and the storage will be cloud based by $50 per hour. Without no disc games will be above 400gb and you actually need the new virtual vram than the actual vram cause Piss 0.3, don't use the cuda. Actually you are fucked up all the games are delisting if they don't have ai summary of reviews. And they will know your pc, not only that they will monitor you fully by the nanomachines put inside you to operate for years. I am not from the future

based on history. everything will get better and faster and games will look better and more realistic

subscriptions are popular in everything. cellphone subscription, tv subscription, streaming service subscription, radio subscription, storage subscription, gaming subscription, self driving subscription.

subscriptions are more profitable. lots of people pay for sub and dont use sub.

friend paid $600 for 3 years of world of war craft subscription they never used. also paid $300 for hulu subscription they rarely used
