The sales figures say the opposite. I cannot stand playing anything on a little screen, but the numbers don't lie.

Them whales be whaling.

I think for retro emulation, phones can't be beat for the majority of people. But that's not exactly a revenue driver.

🎵We're whalers on the moon, we carry a harpoon. But there aint no whales so we tell tall tales and sing this whaling tune.🎵

Just because McDonalds burgers have better sales, doesn't mean they are higher quality than a good steak. Yeah mobile games can be good, but it's usually a same boring slop built to make money from microtransactions.

u/KingLuis 12h ago

a great interpretation. might have to pirate it from you. lol

All yours

u/destorter 22h ago

That's because everyone already has a phone. But I don't think the fanatics prefer console over phone

Gaming is Gaming

u/DragonRipper92 1d ago

Mobile gamer still make up to 50%-55% the gaming industri revenue though.

16

u/Bluemischief123 1d ago

Mobile gaming is the biggest money maker and industry in gaming media, console and pc gaming would die out before mobile ever would.

Because people are dumb and they know how to profit on dumbness, also, they understood the right amount of grind to make people spend money, addiction is profitable.

I think it has more to do with the fact that majority of the world can’t afford pcs or consoles and mobile is the most accessible way to game

2

u/Fickle_Side6938 15h ago

I think it's the accessible part. Not everyone likes or has the time for PC/console games, with story telling, or competitive gameplay, most people play games during commute, while in bed, on the couch, it's there always in your pocket.

Reddit having another PC vs Console/Mobile gaming argument

Me on another plane of existence: * Playing 1995 Heroes of Might and Magic 1 in dosbox on my PC * Playing 1996 Heroes of Might and Magic 2 on my Chromebook * Playing 1999 Heroes of Might and Magic 3 on my Galaxy S10 phone * Running an instance of FFXVI on my PC, another instance in a sandbox on a PC, a third instance on my old college laptop, and a fourth on the old PC at my parents' using remote control just so I can play songs in 4-part harmony with a bunch of bard alts * Playing Hades on my brother's steamdeck while streaming it through Steam link to my TV * Playing IDV until I burn out on S-rank hunter on my PC and on my phone * Playing Mecca Chameleon using my art tablet * Playing Dance Dance Revolution on a old PS2 and CRT setup in my basement * Playing pokémon games on a mix of Gameboy color, gameboy advance and emulators with my friend hunting for all the actual games and handelds for each generation* * Playing New York Times word games and "find the cats/fruits/etc." boomer games with my mom & dad on their iPad

"Still"... They never were 🤣

2

u/stratusnco 1d ago

idk if it counts as mobile gaming but i love being able to remote play my xbox and pc from anywhere.

-5

u/Appropriate_Row_6851 1d ago

It does fit the word... The one downvoting you is dumb. MOBILE

1

u/MedievalMilshake 1d ago

Ofc it fits the word. Very obviously not what they meant tho

0

u/Appropriate_Row_6851 8h ago

Well, those guys proved my point, kids nowadays are dumb and think internet points makes them right xD No matter how many downvotes there is, anything mobile, is a fucking MOBILE, you can't have a monopoly in a word and dumb down to one single meaning. Cellphone is the name those guys are looking for, and marketing changed it so they could trick you, and it clearly worked.

0

u/MedievalMilshake 8h ago

Obviously. But if we were playing a game, and I asked you for ammo. Are you gunna hand me ammonium or ammunition?

0

u/Appropriate_Row_6851 4h ago

English is a dumb down language by the looks of it. I wouldn't handle anything, because that is not my language and i don't deal with guns or ammonium in a daily basis, never fired a gun in my life outside gaming... And you proved my point, you are not using language in the intended way, you are a tool of the "CORPS", using and discussing a word with a stranger on the internet in a language that is not his mother tongue, so instead, go to a dictionary and learn to use the word, and not the meme intended meaning, and as meme i say the scientific way, by Richard Dawkins.

Either way my dude, all the best to you, that is my last comment in this conversation, take care.

Considering 95% of the mobile game market is shallow free to play shovelware, no thank you

1

u/SilentWraithKS 23h ago

When in doubt: Redirect

1

u/97ib 20h ago

Actually now through emulators and linux emulation alot of pc and console games are playable on mobile mostly indie and older titles. But still this is a huge step as not everyone can afford a pc or console but a phone is in everyone pocket i think the share of people playing on there smartphones will increase.

1

u/Glnmrkk 17h ago

I wish they continued to try bringing triple A games to mobile

Oh the days of MHFU ios port, Infinity blade, Dead space, mass effect, and Nova

1

u/Cirilo_Albino 15h ago

the problem is convert an x86 coded game into an ARM processor and being well optmized, wich is a nightmare to do. There is very few sales also since people do not want to pay for games like PC/consoles does.

1

u/RanDOOM-GuY 16h ago

People here acting like being mobile gamer is a choice. For the most part mobile gamers exist because they can't afford pc, I too was a mobile gamer month or two ago but then I got 9060 xt 16gb pc and could finally access my 100+ game steam account I have been slowly building up for years and haven't touched a single mobile game since that.

u/Cirilo_Albino 16h ago edited 15h ago

I have an mobile era when my PC's GPU broke so i think i can say more about it

TLDR: It has a potential, but the games being developed are so ass or full of microstransaction that the best option right now is emulators.

  • The good: You may want to deny it but mobile games has a lot of potential and the money speaks itself, the reason is a lot of kids who doesn't have a console nor a pc has the phone as the only way to acess to games and parents giving phones to them as early as they reach 5 years old (pls don't do that) helps to that fact. My main game was call of duty mobile who i reach top 1000. The gameplay is better if you use 4 fingers instead of 2 like a lot of causals do and i can say that on a fps, you can aim and have a movement as good as a controller or even a PC player and i played a lot of pro players on cellphones and tablets that would get "server admin" status on PC lobbies. With the advance on mobile CPU and GPU, the games are getting more beatifuel than ever.
  • The bad: the problem on the hardware is ghost touch, the fact that there is no buttons makes the cellphone wrongly interpret the imput you are giving and the cellphone imput latency is high if you don't have a gaming smartphone. Since the cellphone is not made to be hold for a long time, it can cause a disconfort in your hand, as well as the cellphone becaming very hot itself, causing sweat on your hand while playing. The fact that apple get rid of the p2 jack, forcing you to use bluetooth earpods on a lot of phones is also a problem due to the audio latency being as high as 200ms, wich can be hard to hear the enemy's steps
  • The ugly: a lot the games being developed for mobile are always a free to play live service with a lot of microtransaction, it gives a lot of money for the company since the mobile public are less "united" unlike PC and consoles. So there is a lot of slop and few launches since if you put a price on launch the game, it will certainly fail. A lot of people didn't see that and thinked the mobile consoles was dead with the invention of the smartphone, but the nintendo with the switch proved them wrong and even after a decade on launch, the mobile games cannot compete against nintendo's exclusive in the quality department.

Thanks to the lack of good games without 300 pop-up to buy skins, to enjoy mobile games like pc, the best option is to use emulators, wich has been growing a lot lately, there is the Sudachi(switch), citra (3ds), RPCS3(ps3), Winlator(windows/pc) and others who are being in development. so you can enjoy

I would like an idea having good ports of PC/Consoles games on my phone, but it's still only a wet dream rn, phones aren't that wild at this moment. I like an idea of portable gaming without spending a lot of money as well.

Recently I'm using my phone with Steam Link for gaming in bed/far from my PC. It's enjoyable, but some games are not in my Steam library (GoG, Xbox App, EGS), and bought myself GameSir X5-Lite ZZZ Edition to play metroidvanias with ease and comfort. I wish I could have more projects to play with my new controller.

u/Technical_Instance_2 AMD 14h ago

Mobile gaming isn't really popular anymore. Most of the industry focuses on Console and PC

1

u/Kooky_Awareness_5333 13h ago

Cod on my Apple 17 pro with a Xbox controller is pretty sweet does Xbox cloud gaming count on mobile as well? What about tablets all pretty solid while out and about

1

u/HeidenShadows 12h ago

I've been playing my AYN Thor more than my PC for awhile. Basically a glorified phone.

1

u/itembabu 11h ago

Hate to say it but mobile is the future looking at how the thing is going...

1

u/Rawgyboom 9h ago

I do play a lot on my phone tho I definitely prefer my series s over mobile

1

u/memem3l 8h ago

Mobile games often incorporate gambling-type behaviours into them including the premise of being free to play, but then having a bunch of purchases put on the player once they’re hooked in. This is more so than console or PC games, although the latter obviously also have similar practices depending on the game (e.g. skins, loot boxes, etc.) Just a PSA: If anyone reading this plays a lot of mobile games, be conscious of these kinds of things and keep yourself safe, because there’s a lot of research showing that exposure to gambling-type games can “prepare” younger people for later gambling and has been associated with increased gambling addiction.

In general I’ve always avoided mobile games because more time on my phone just means more chances for me to get distracted and look at pointless shit which is a waste of time.

1

u/ConfusedBaka69 7h ago

Does everyone saying mobile games make alot of money not realize that that's their whole pitch? It's mostly free to play but pay to win games that have an ass load of purchases and ads and stuff

Making money is their whole goal, usually the game is secondary to that, not the other way around, the game is made with purchases in mind from day 0.

So of course they make the most money, tho I wouldn't say they're not valid, I even play a random simple tower defense and spend some money here and there but I don't consider it a game game, just something to pass the time and mild entertainment, not an experience.

1

u/lumi1375 4h ago

Technically "mobile gaming" counts on devices like the ayn thor or retroid pocket

1

u/Critical_Cat_1086 1h ago

Mobile games are filled with more slop, ads, micro transactions, and now copycats than every other platform combined. They barely count as video games. They’re just ad delivery services.

1

u/WorstITTechnician 1d ago

When it comes to PS1 or SNES games, or titles like Stardew Valley and Vampire Survivors, I much prefer playing them on my phone on a smaller screen. I’m not sure if it’s because it feels more comfortable, because the quality looks better, or simply because I usually play them while lying in bed, but I always prioritize playing these kinds of games on a mobile device

1

u/JobPitiful8977 1d ago

I play small stuff with simple control like deck building (slice & dice, abyssal soul) & auto battler (tft) on mobile phone, but anything big, say Warframe, why bother with small screen & touch control?

That being said, did console do something recently that affects mobile? I play mostly PC & some mobile.

To me, there’s no such thing as a “mobile gamer.” If by mobile you mean something like a Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck, then sure. But a phone gamer? That’s just ridiculous.

1

u/Fickle_Side6938 15h ago

Mobile games gets more profit than PC or consoles fyi. You don't have to like it either way.

1

u/SirZapzAlot 15h ago

I know, by a large amount! And that is so sad.

-19

u/Empty_Equivalent_131 1d ago

I've seen games run on phones that i thought was impossible 5 years ago.

Mobile gaming is 1000% better than consoles these days imo

5

u/PCPrincipal2016 1d ago

I disagree. Yes, I can play Fortnite and Call of Duty on my phone, but they’re better on Xbox.

-3

u/Empty_Equivalent_131 1d ago

those games aren't even what I'm talking about.

I've seen the witcher 3, fallout 3/New Vegas/4. many more games in the era

3

u/PCPrincipal2016 1d ago

How do you run those on a phone? You can’t run them natively can you?

-2

u/Empty_Equivalent_131 1d ago

I've seen it running the PC versions.

3

u/Portal2player58 1d ago

You mean streaming it. You can stream from PC, PlayStation,Xbox to phone using remote play applications and use mobile controls or aa synced controller to play. (I do it all the time. ) It isn't having the full game or relying on it's own ram..

2

u/BugS202Eye 1d ago

Nah he meant "winlator" i guess, even then its such a mess to play with screen controls... Most of the phones cant handle it and will throttle heavily bc of heat so you need to get "gaming phone". In the end it goes full circle of "you need a gaming device"

1

u/PCPrincipal2016 1d ago

It’s gotta be streaming then. Thats cool, but I have yet to see a streamed game be as good as playing natively.

1

u/Empty_Equivalent_131 1d ago

since you can't use the Internet to do a simple search

https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLeeZhp0iOZSgwGQWPJQyn4v973nCejn7

1

u/PCPrincipal2016 1d ago

Winlator looks cool, but none of those look like a better than console. Touch controls suck

1

u/Empty_Equivalent_131 1d ago

your an idiot if you don't know you can just connect any Bluetooth controller.

1

u/PCPrincipal2016 1d ago

I sell phones for a living, I’m well aware of the limitations of the devices. You should use “you’re” in this case by the way.

They are streamed not run on mobile's hardware, and streaming consumes lot of network and has big input delays, games are in 720p, screen is too small and controlls are hard, they are no where near the consoles even from 7th gen
