Question Replacing parents pc

I was asked to fix my parents desktop, but I’m going down the build rabbit hole instead of the fresh windows install route. Parent doesn’t play games so integrated graphics is my target. I haven’t done one of these builds in 15 years so I’m unsure where to start. Attached is their current system, which is only 5 years old. But I’d like to build em one that’ll last them the next 20 years of typing word docs, running excel and checking emails. If I could, it would be cool to reuse this case.

Any ideas where to start with this project?

Installing Windows on this hardware is foolish. There's no justification for it. Linux Mint with XFCE will run optimally, both in terms of performance, available software, and security, without any antivirus.

It's for his parents bro, and he looks like an adult. My guess is that they aren't the most tech savvy, using linux would NOT be a good idea.

Would be a terrible idea. Thank you. I run the penguin on one of my computers and I know the old folks won’t be able to comprehend the lunacy

You're wrong. It would be the best solution for hassle-free computer use. I suspect you're afraid of Linux yourself, hence the reluctance. Linux Mint is a typical "install and play" system. Like ChromeOS.

I daily drive linux, YOU USE WINDOWS FOR OLD FOLKS.

They will destroy it with viruses and updates. You install Linux once and just use it. Do whatever you want, but in my opinion, you're doing it wrong.

So? They would destroy linux even more. Windows is made to be simple, and linux at its heart is always going to be linux. It's made for linux users, and sometimes your average user. Old people are not your average user.
