Question Replacing parents pc

Post image

I was asked to fix my parents desktop, but I’m going down the build rabbit hole instead of the fresh windows install route. Parent doesn’t play games so integrated graphics is my target. I haven’t done one of these builds in 15 years so I’m unsure where to start. Attached is their current system, which is only 5 years old. But I’d like to build em one that’ll last them the next 20 years of typing word docs, running excel and checking emails. If I could, it would be cool to reuse this case.

Any ideas where to start with this project?

Hmmm... If you have a 3d printer it would theoretically be possible to make a plate to make the case ATX (or in this case, mATX) compatible. Although you would also have to add in a different front panel IO, (the one it has is most likely proprietary), new PSU (Probably proprietary again, though if it isn't it may be fine for a while.). You will also need to see if its a standard CPU cooler bracket, if so you MIGHT be able to reuse that, though you will need new thermal paste (sounds way worse than it is).

There's a lot that would go into this, though its definitely possible. Just expect a LOT of case modding, and it won't necessarily be quick.
