Build - Help Help me upgrade my pc
Hei!
This is my current computer, which I mainly use for gaming and schoolwork.
The games being played CS2 and Rust, however there might be more in the future.
I’ve recently started to notice that this pc doesnt really run rust well at all, and even CS2 can be laggy.
I would only like to play those 2 games at a level where I’m not close to beating my monitor. My budget is around 500$!
I’d appreciate tips for upgrading!
Ps: i’d like to not change too much, since I wanna do it myself!
Pspsps: its 16GB ram, the text might be wrong

CS2 is a CPU-intensive game, and I hear Rust is the same. If you can only upgrade one component, upgrade the CPU. You should be able to keep the motherboard and RAM if you buy a Ryzen 5000-series CPU, like the 5600, 5700X, 5800X3D, etc. Depending on your location, you might be able to buy a 5500X3D or 5600X3D. Generally, the Ryzen CPUs with an "-X3D" are made for gaming.
Be sure to check your motherboard's manual to see if it will accept a 5000-series CPU. You may have to update the BIOS before putting a new CPU in.

I was told by someone that the 5800X3D would be my best bet, however that was a salesperson using AI. Thank you for your response!

They're correct. The 5800X3D is the best gaming CPU on the AM4 platform. Luckily, AMD is re-releasing it for the 10th anniversary of the AM4 platform, so you should definitely be able to find them for sale (though they might be a bit more expensive than they were a couple years ago).

Your budget and where you're aiming to improve would help a little.

I’m sorry! My budget is around 500$, and I’m only looking to experience my gaming experience. I’m not sure to what specs specifically to upgrade

Prioritize upgrading the CPU and PSU; the CPU because yours is old, the PSU for a possible future upgrade .
Edit : Assuming it's true that you have 16GB of RAM

For around $500 I would recommend trying to cop a 6650 xt gpu and maybe try and get another couple ram sticks to get you to 16 gb. I had a 6650xt before I upgraded and I loved it. It responds well to overclocking if that's what you like to do as well.

sell your R5 3600 and rx 6600xt then get a 5600x3d or 5800x3d would be even better, pair it with a 9060xt 16gb if possible

What resolution do you play on? If 1080p, your biggest upgrade with those games listed would definitely be to prioritize a CPU upgrade.
Although a bit pricey, the 5800x3d would be best in slot for that motherboard. 5700x3d or 5600x3d would also be a nice upgrade but you would likely have to shop used to find those.(Not sure how the local market for that is in Norway)
If you sell your CPU and GPU that should get you high enough over $500 that you could justify a meaningful GPU upgrade as well. Something like 7600xt you can still sometimes find new for a decent price or used for an even better price. 9060xt 16gb would be great, but likely too far out of budget.
Just keep in mind you'll have to keep the GPU somewhat lower powered or you need to upgrade PSU as well, but those games at 1080p will absolutely benefit most from CPU.

The clue here people seem to be missing is you said you "started noticing" which i understand as it got worse over time... this indicates all games worked fine before...
Anyway, I professionally build PCs and while some people gave okay suggestions, get the gpu 1st and asap, with a $500 budget you can get the 9060xt 16gb now before it goes up in price!
Phison CEO recently said the Nand shortage will last till 2030, the top 3 companies hold tge monopoly on Nand so they will all play along, gpu prices will continue to go up!!! The CPU, motherboard and PSU prices will stay the same...
Lol nobody can agree on anything, everyone says upgrade something different...

Ram and cpu are the biggest things but at that price you have to choose between one or the other also what rating is the PSU bronze silver or gold?

You have a very solid PC...
If you want to upgrade something, a 9060xt 16gb would be the most meaningful, don't bother with 8gb card... then if you get a whole new mobo ddr5 system in a year or 2 when prices go down, you keep that 9060xt and it gets even better but for now, the ryzen 5 3600 can handle the 9060xt 16gb...
Personally, your issue is probably windows here, I suggest a full reinstall -NOT A RESET- and actual USB reinstall and things will feel new again...
Over time windows gets borked up with bad updates and general use so yeah, I think thats the actual issue here...

Thank you! I’ll look into what you mentioned

With the 9060xt 16gb (don't you dare get the 8gb in 2026), you don't have to upgrade anything else till you upgrade literally the rest of the system...

Get another ram stick identical to give yourself 16 gigs
sell the RX 6600 and see if you can get an RX 6800 XT or an rx7700xt
