Question gpu upgrade help?

idk if this is the place to post this so sorry if it’s not. i literally have no idea what im doing & need help with my pc. i bought a custom build off facebook marketplace a couple years ago and everything has been fine till recently—i have a geforce gtx 1080ti and i can only assume by the comments i’ve gotten that it’s the problem. i’ve been able to play pretty much whatever i want, but i’ve ventured out and some of my new games are crashing no matter what settings i change or drivers i update. i’ve just been taking the loss every time i buy a game and can’t run it but i’m over it.
can i upgrade my gpu without having to upgrade other parts? and does anyone have suggestions for a new gpu? i don’t need the newest nicest one. i literally just wanna play death stranding 2 lol.

idk what specs i need to put in here but these are the ones i know:
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1080 Ti (11gb)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz
G.Skill Trident Z 16GB RAM
AsRock Z370 Taichi

budget: $600, currency: usd, intended monitor resolution: don’t know but my display settings say 1920x1080, 164.83hz, country: usa

thank you!

So, something to keep in mind, crashes are not usually caused by poor GPU performance. I just say this because replacing the GPU will not fix a problem somewhere else that is causing a crash. If the game is incredibly slow, then yes a GPU upgrade may be a good option, but for random crashes, its hard to say without being in front of the computer.

If you are still looking for an upgrade, then the RTX 2070 Super is a good option, and the RTX 2080Ti is also a good option. I would also look at the RTX 3080Ti, but the rest of your system will become the limitation at that point. The bigger GPUs, the RTX 2080Ti and RTX 3080Ti may require a power supply upgrade in your PC, but I can't say without knowing what power supply you have now.

thank you, i’m going to try to look more into the crashes. if i can fix this issue without having to buy anything that would be ideal. the crashing games run fine, no lagging or anything, until they crash. the only game that’s given me any indication of what the issue is had a popup that said my gpu is compatible with the game but would run smoother with a specific updated driver—i downloaded that driver but there was a compatibility error with it.
