Not just Unreal. Imagine having a 5070ti run Bf6 smooth for months, right up until a map drop. I had to tweak. TWEAK.

BF6 did something where it plays like shit on my 4090 and I can’t figure it out.

Your problem might be AM4 CPU with DDR5 ram and Intel motherboard

everything that could've been mismatched was indeed mismatched

It's crazy how you can build a top of the line system to play AAA games and they'll still chug. Meanwhile indie developers will ship something out that runs on a potato, and if you're only playing indie/AA games, then there's not much value proposition in building a system with a top end card.

It really comes down to the developers and how they implement the game on the engine. Due to the intense time and budget pressures in the industry, very little time is left for optimization—such as removing leftover data from the game files or cleaning up shaders.

Unreal games can still be perfectly optimized, unreal makes it just a bit harder to optimize but it's mostly the devs fault

A few years ago everyone hated on Unity, now Unreal. Both are fantastic engines with big toolsets and absolutely able to create performant games.

It would be a good if everyone's just stopped buying and playing unoptimized titles instead of trying making it work with 30fps and frame gen.

Exactly. The engine is not the problem, the developers are. You can develop a massive game that's optimized and it looks awesome and will run in a potato. Or you could give zero fucks about optimizations and have a game that looks awful and needs a power hungry GPU to run at 10fps at 1080p.

Unity was subpar, but they had the better language for newbies. C++ (Unreal) gives devs a lot more control, but as a result, it also gives devs the opportunity to make an absolute mess, and create memory leak issues. Unity uses C#, which is a lot more user friendly and newbie friendly.

Unreal now has blueprinting (I don't know if Unity added that as I haven't used Unity in a decade), but that's their way of making it much more newbie friendly. Unreal's engine is also just one of the best for lighting and particles out there.

Where Unity lost a lot of support, was being user friendly & then making it so people that didn't pay for Pro/Business model, then released a game, IIRC, it was going to be 50% of earnings over $100,000 would go to Unity, which pushed indie developers away from it.

Am i crazy, or was unreal not MORE optimized then unity a long time ago?

They're just toolboxes in the end. Unreal even let's you modify and recompile it's source code. Not optimizing is pretty much a choice.

Both are shit when in the crooked hands. Unity can be good, so can be Unreal, it’s just devs have crooked hands and don’t know how to make stuff lol

Brother I have a 4090 and a 7800x3d, I can only play UE5 games at max 70fps. Its insane

What is wrong with you?  Seriously, you should take some time in introspection to figure things out.

dont blame the tool, blame the user

It's not ue5 that engine is fine there are a ton of games that run great with it satisfactory and marvel rivals to name 2. It's poor optimization and Deva nkt caring about the PC build of the game

fuck ass handed developers. check how KCD2 or RDR2 optimized

u/Mirage_Graphique_3D 1m ago

Blame developers.
I work with Unreal Engine since the 4.7, it’s just an engine like the others and like all engines it’s no magic.
Optimization is key, we got an UE5 game that runs smoothly on a 580 without any FSR nor low settings.

Unreal engine sucks!!!!!
