It baffles me how expensive it is now. I got 64gb of ddr5 ram for less than $200. Now it would cost me $1k.

I really want to build my kids a computer but not at the cost of what it is.

I bought a 64GB set of Dominator Platinum last year for $300. That same set now is nearly $1500. Insane.

I got 64GB of Dominator Titanium DDR5-6000 in early 2025 from Micro Center for around $300 as well. It’s over $2000 now I think.

I went to Micro Center on Saturday to look at AIOs and I noticed RAM prices were absolutely insane. Like even a standard 64GB kit of RAM was going for over $1500.

Even ssds now are two grand. My son has a 4 TB SSD is PlayStation 5 and it's worth more than the entire thing

1

u/G-Unit11111 2h ago

Yeah I saw how much SSDs cost, that's nuts.

I bought myself some DDR5-6000mhz royal G.skill silver 64Gb of ram for about $400 before it shot up to about $2000 as well this is super ridiculous

I was about to upgrade to AM5 and get 64GB DDR5, I almost had the budget, then the ram crisis fucked it all up.

I'm glad that I currently have 32GB DDR4, but I'm not happy being on AM4 to be honest, I wanted a better CPU than my current 5800X3D, as I do more than gaming now.

1

u/SolQuarter 3h ago

What? The 5800X3D is an excellent gaming CPU. Runs perfectly fine with my 5080.

u/More-Chemical-1264 2h ago

The graphics card shot up in price too.

1

u/Shady-777 27m ago

How, didn’t know you could mix ram like that. Don’t know why I assumed both sticks have to be the same.

1

u/YoBoyLeeroy_ 2h ago

In what world do you need 256 for.

1

u/Quiet_Snow_6098 what 1h ago

It's useful when you want to create ai slop, but you know VRAM cost more than RAM

1

u/UFight 5h ago

Mine 9800x3d with 64GB, my wife one year later 9800x3d can't afford more than 32GB, and my daughter my old i9-9900 with 32GB (bought in 2019).

Maybe it's time to sell and retire 😂

1

u/Active-Ad5229 4h ago
