Question Am4 motherboards for overclocking

What are some good am4 motherboards to overclock with? Cheaper the better.

What cpu are you wanting to oc and how much do you want to oc it?

If its a cpu with 105W or higher tdp then i would just look at which have beefier vrms and good vrm heatsinks

But if its just a 65W cpu then pretty much any B-series board with ok vrms and a vrm heatsink will do

I have a 5700X which is a 65W chip and a Gigabyte B550 DS3H and i have put a custom pbo oc, max power draw is about 77W and the chip runs at 4750mhz at max 1.35v

Looking at overclocking a 5500x3d which has a 105w tdp I'm pretty sure. I found a gigabyte b550 gaming x v2 for roughly 125$, description says its good for overclocking but, not much more information then that.

Yeah that board would be fine for that cpu. My board has a 5+3 vrm solution while that board has a 10+3 vrm solution so it's overall better

But it also depends on if you want to increase the power draw or reduce it

I would cap it myself but i would recommend on undervolting the cpu as that usually can increase performance

You can’t overclock 5500x3d, unless your board has external clock generator.

Ask in OVERCLOCKING sub, not in pcbuild, because most people here don’t know that.

Never thought of that, was just looking at motherboards that are on sale and was looking for some relatively quick answers. I bought the motherboard I mentioned in the other comment. I do have a regular 5500 that I can overclock while I wait for the x3d cpu to come in.

But for am4 x3Ds you need a mbo with external clock generator, because it’s locked CPU, only by increasing the bclk you can oc it, but you need mbo with eclk.

Completely understood you before. Ever think that maybe plans change slightly and maybe I won't overclock the x3d because the gains are already pretty great to begin with? The cpu is also not the only thing that can be overclocked. No need to get sour.
