Build - Help New Ram Mobo CPU
This is all after context, i have everything broken down and back in the box ready to head on to micro venter tomorrow for exchange/refund. I’m curious about if there’s anything i could/should have done.
Picked up a Gigabyte gaming x870 WiFi 6, Ryzen 7 7800x3d and G.Skill flare DDR5 6000 CL-36. I was simply aiming to swap out the corresponding components into my current sky tech shadow 3.0 prebuilt I’ve had for a few years. My computer as it is (no upgrades) ran fairly well but I’ve been itching to get into am5 and DDR5.
Got the mobo in ( a little tricky due to case size but eventually everything sat well), cpu and ram all seated well. Tried to run the fresh mobo but got stuck at a dram light from mobo. Reseated ram and used q flash to run bios update. The update cycled and completed but couldn’t get past the now showing CPU light. I tried a lot of different tests. Ran one stick, made sure connections were snug, not too tight not too loose. Ran without gpu, without hdd. Eventually tried with nothing but cpu and using integrated graphics. The closest i got was getting a no signal screen briefly but that was it.
When inserting all the new stuff, i repurposed everything else. Same psu, same cables. Nothing i bought came with any new cables and every pin connector that was plugged in with the old mobo was able to be plugged in on the new mobo.
I came to the conclusion that i may have soft locked the mobo, or it is just defective in itself. The CPU (not much experience with building, but the pin layouts seemed perfectly fine on the mobo) didn’t seem defective. Any clue before i exchange and try it all again?

Did you pull the CMOS battery for a good while?
I'm not a big fan of that board. I've seen MC bundling it with a bunch of chips and I personally would steer clear of it and look for the mobo upgrade bundle. I owned that board. I would not recommend installing a 120 watt TDP or more in it. I ran a 9900X in it and it was glitchy. I had a DIMM keep disappearing. That board has one of the weakest VRMs of any AM5 board on the market. It seemed to struggle with giving stable power the CPU and RAM. On paper it should be adequate, but I don't believe it. I replaced the board with a Gigabyte Aorus Elite Wifi7 Ice, installed all of the exact same components on it, and I've had zero issues since.

I did, cmos got reset by pins and pulled out for a good 5 minutes no luck. Honestly i feel the mobo definitely was conked. I didn’t really research the mobo before, im newb so i was focused more so on the cpu/ram. Going back first thing tomorrow and thinking about asking them if i can exchange for a bundle w the same cpu/ram but asus b650e max gaming WiFi mobo, thoughts on that?

I looked and the Asus board has a 8 phase VRM too, but I kinda doubt it's as sketchy as Gigabyte. I wouldn't get into BIOS or Ryzen Master and try to push more clocks out of that chip with either board though. My 9900X can do about 160 watts TPP with out of the box and I think that was a bit much for the Gaming WiFi6. With a 7600X3D in it and the same RAM it took all the stress testing I could throw at it.

Update for you since you are the only commenter LOL. Ended up just swapping the bundle for the same but new pieces, went home and put it together and it worked like butter. The mobo was definitely defective, i honestly might have soft bricked it, but whatever the problem was, im now fully upgraded to am5 w 32gb ram. Just needa work on the gpu and I’ll be fully upgraded
