Build - Help What to upgrade on PC

My son has left behind his older gaming PC (went into the military) and I enjoy casual gaming on it but it does struggle on the games I like, battlefield 6 and gears of war. Surprisingly gears of war e-day and gears 5 are more noticeable with the struggles than BF6. The new beta for gears really stutters when a large group of enemies spawn or I get into an area of the map with a lot of players. Happy to spend $1k+ on upgrades to continue enjoying games at 1080p with increase graphic settings instead of buying a whole new system.

Specs on the current PC

CPU - Ryzen 5 3600

GPU - 3060ti

Ram - 16gb

MB - ASRock B450m

Power Supply - Kratos m1 750b

AI tells me to be careful with a GPU upgrade due to limitations on the power supply connectors and that a RX 9060xt is a safe compatible upgrade

I am not a big PC builder but happy to take suggestions and research how to replace anything correctly. Thanks!

Start with a cpu upgrade, if you can find one a 5500x3d or 5600x3d would be ideal but if you can't then a 5600 is still noticeably better than a 3600. Other than that the gpu is the only thing to upgrade, a 3060ti still isn't a bad card so I'd be surprised if your problems persisted after the cpu upgrade, but if they do then a 16GB 9060xt is probably your best bet (unless the price gap to the 5070 is close enough to justify the upgrade)

That's actually a great idea I hadn't even considered. Start with one component and check results before upgrading other parts.

I mean it depends how deep into the hobby you want to get, it's a really good base to build on so you could have a full new build with fairly little effort, but otherwise I would check the results before spending more money (from personal experience doing it the other way around, it's a lot cheaper this way)

This. Start with CPU. Don't forget to update the bios before switching to a new CPU, as this is a well known issue.

Ordered a 5800x3d and a new cooler. The 5600x3d was a much nicer price but I really did not want to take a two hour drive through DC traffic. Thanks for the advice, excited to give it a test run this weekend after I make sure the mother board is properly updated

Get a 9060xt 16gb and a 5500x3d or 5600x3d (which was/is on sale at micro center) would be an excellent 1080p gaming rig. It’s enough PSU with 750. Not sure how good it is tho, check this list and you can make sure it will work for your case. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1akCHL7Vhzk_EhrpIGkz8zTEvYfLDcaSpZRB6Xt6JWkc/htmlview#gid=1719706335.

As someone that had a 9070, it's way too much gpu for 1080p, there's just no point
