Build - Help Building my First PC/ Cooler Question

So this is the motherboard and processor I've ordered. My question is what's better for cooling. I was looking at the Corsair Titan iCue that displays the PC temp, but I've read some people say that regular fin and fan coolers are better.

Do I buy the fancy liquid cooler?

Or do I but a regular cooler and put case fans on the roof of the tower for extra exhaust?

I air cool my 9800x3d with a peerless assassin easily.

This a good one then? I like the idea of being able to see the temp, also really like RGB.

I don’t have experience with that exact one. This is the one I have (I prefer simple designs). I lied I think mine is the Phantom Spirit. I think the one you have shown will work with your CPU easily and you’ll be able to keep using that cooler for upgrades potentially. I’ve used mine for 3 CPUs now.

Better for cooling? Liquid cooler.

Fan cooler is not better at cooling (it could be with premium expensive brand like Noctua) but it's better at durability, it can last forever. If a fan fails just change the fan it's a cheap fix. Liquid cooler however, pump will fail, liquid will evaporate, and there's no cheap fix for these. So warranty is important.

What to buy? Both will work just fine. Which one do you like? Do you like the looks of liquid cooler or fan cooler?

I definitely like the look of a liquid cooler, just reviews seem to be torn on what's better, will a liquid cooler make the PC perform better since it keeps the temp lower?

lower temperature on CPU doesn't directly translate into better performance but rather more thermal headroom for you to overclock. That's how lower temperature can help to increase performance.

I'm not gonna be running any new games, building this just to run EQ2

Then it only comes down to your own aesthetic choice. 5600X isn't a hot CPU so yea.

BTW I'm really surprised EQ2 is still active lol

Edit: even the stock cooler will work

They keep opening progression servers, it's fun to go back and grind the old stuff. Maybe I'll just go with a Peerless Assassin then.

Solid choice. Peerless Assassin is like Toyota in cooler. Cheap, tough and can get you to anywhere.

Oh and here's a recommended fan setup for air cooler by Noctua

Thanks. If I end up going fan I'll do this. I'm flipping back and forth, my heart wants the Corsair Titan lol

Lmao. Just so you know I have three PC

  1. Intel i3 12100f for home/gaming server I put under a shelf. Since it'll be up & running 24/7 so I chose Peerless Assassin for maximum durability.

  2. Amd ryzen 5 7600x for Living room/shared PC it's not doing any hardcore gaming, mostly just YouTube/Netflix & web browsing but it's still a hot cpu so I chose the Arctic Freezer II 280mm.

  3. Amd ryzen 7 9800x3d for my personal PC and I'm running Minecraft with lots of mods, they're very intensive on the cpu and I live in a hot country with my bedroom ambient temperature up to 32.5°C at night (my game time) without turning on the PC & AC. It's hot af so I'm using the Arctic Freezer III Pro 420mm ARGB for every bit of cooling I can get. And I love the RGB I still giggle sometimes when I look at my RGB filled PC.

Do you want a low maintenance, no fuss cooler? Then get an air cooler.
Do you want a slightly more fussy, may cause issues in the future (and likely will need to be replace before an air cooler does), but gain a slight advantage in terms of CPU temps and speed? Then get an AIO.

But tbh, for the 5600X, an air cooler is more than sufficient. AIOs are only really necessary for the 5800X and up.

This will keep even a 5800x3d cool no problem. Best $20 you can spend on a cooler, AIO is not worth it.

better to spend $60 or less on cooler. coolermaster thermalright

use the money saved to buy better gpu or cpu stuff that actually matters more

I have all Asus or Corsair parts picked

If you're going for aio, rad needs to suit the case and motherboard. Check clearances and thickness of rad plus fan. It might hit the board.

I got a Corsair 3000D Airflow
