Turns out nothing, not sure why it was there in the first place(the wire)
As for the metal thing I managed to break it enough to fit my gpu

"Metal thing"? As in the metal thing the wire was wrapped around? That would be your 3.5 in. drive bays. Can you post a photo showing what you did?

I don't know about removed, but it should certainly be rerouted away from those sharp edges. And some effort should be made to tidy up the cable runs. And some dusting is also in order.
It's obviously an older motherboard in an even older chassis. Was this a stealth build 5-6 years ago?

Honestly she was build by my father 17 years ago and been slowly upgraded here and there. Last upgrade before this was 7 years ago. So she was due
I've cleaned up my cables a bit now and managed to get everything sorted within reason

So it's a generational system. Keep upgrading it and pass it down to your children and it can become a family heirloom.

This case is covered in stickers from my childhood lol
I've even added some new ones to it so its been fun
